22 oz. Bomber
Green Wax/Capped
Limited 2021 Release

Poured into a Westy 12 glass a pretty nice translucent dark brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice quick/small/fizzy tan head, which leaves a nice medium size island, and some minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is very nice, malty, hoppy, with a very nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, raisins, plums, dates, grapes), vanilla, oak, bourbon, licorice. The taste is very nice, malty, hoppy, with a very nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, raisins, plums, dates, grapes), very nice vanilla sweetness, very nice bourbon note, oaky, licorice, a very nice sipper. Full Body, ABV hidden very nicely, a very complex brew. Overall, this is a big beer, very tasty. Glad to see it around here, again.

Received from my sender in NBW BIF #15 (Thanks Jammin!)
Poured the color of strong tea and had a manilla colored 1” head.
The aroma was mild for me (chemically damaged nose) but sweet malts did tilt through.
The taste, oh the taste. I had a bomber to myself and I still wanted more. Smooth and slightly sweet and full tilt malts swirl with oak and bourbon for a superb flavor. I seriously considered not brushing my teeth tonight so I could keep tasting it,
The feel was excellent, I sipped the entire thing over 90 minutes and it was good.
Thanks Jammin, this was really, really good!

Pours a gorgeous mahogany brown that is a little cloudy, which fits these big (12.2% ABV) barleywines really well, and there’s a tight, creamy tan head up top for good measure. Absolutely beautiful beer. The nose has a significant toffee note and a HUGE stone fruit aroma that presents as dark cherries, and a nice oaky booze note from the barrel that tosses a bit of vanilla into the mix. O. M. G.

The toffee flavor is upfront on the taste, a rich and creamy treat that sets the tone for this beer. The dark cherries follow, and they are the perfectly delicious complement to the rich toffee on my palate, with some booze and oak at the very back of the taste. Incredible balance in a complex beer.

The mouthfeel is rich and creamy, fitting this beer to a “T.” This is the best beer I’ve had in the last year or so. Magnificent stuff.

I'm huge fan of Fremont, especially their winter warmers and stouts. While it wasn't bad, Brew 5000 disappointed me (too high expectations?). It poured a dark brown and smelled malty sweet. The taste was the biggest miss for me. I didn't the carmel, vanilla, or fruitiness, I just got for the lack of a better description - "sweetness". I really looking for each note to be distinct and flavorable across the profile. I will try again to see if it was that bottle or my palate that day.

Just tastes like date syrup.

Pours a beautiful caramel, becoming dark and opaque as the liquid fills the glass. A half finger of cap rises and leaves some stringy lacing with rising carb, feeding a beautiful mocha ring. Nose is molasses, bourbon, dark fruit, vanilla, and oak. Taste follows suit with a very sweet vanilla and brown sugar note taking center stage and barrel notes following up. Feel is syrupy, mouth coating and oily. Overall, very good for the style but overly sweet for my tastes.

I received a bottle from @snaotheus in the NBS BIF #14. Poured into a snifter at 58°. It pours a pretty, dark cola with a foamy, medium khaki-colored head that dissipated quickly leaving modest lacing. A very fragrant nose featuring toffee, brown sugar, raisin, fig, and earthy tobacco smoke. There is also a subtle aroma of bourbon. The smell continues to improve as it breathes in the glass. The taste opens big and sweet with abundant raisin, plum, vanilla, brown sugar, and toffee. In fact, it's as sweet a Barleywine as I've experienced, coming close to cloying. But the earthy leather and tobacco notes provide balance. The bourbon influence is delicate and effective; it compliments the other flavors without distraction. Its mouth feel is superb! Viscous and chewy with lite carbonation. The 12.2% ABV is warming but not overpowering. The boozy sweetness makes it a delightful sipper. Overall, Brew 5000 is a very special English Barleywine and I'm grateful to have had the chance to savor it.

Pours a deep, dark brown that carries a semi-turbid consistency. It looks black when pushed against a wall. Head is a finger and a half of khaki foam. Aroma is ripping with fig, raisins, plum, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, and toffee. Light whiskey seeps into the back, while the aroma continues to lean into the sugary start. Toasty and caramel malts shore up the edges. Flavor profile is more of a blend of sweet and heat, hitting notes of vanilla, cola spices, caramel, fig, and toffee. Light whiskey adds some heat to the back, but it still leans into the sugar notes, forming a boozy bakery treat. Mouth feel is thick with a still effervescence that suspends light and consistent grit throughout. Overall, a hearty drinking delightfully balanced barleywine that delivers across the board.

Served in a 15.5oz Speiglau tulip from a 22oz bottle.

Bottled 8 months ago.

Pours dark brown with minimal tan head and a few floaties.

The nose is caramel, dark chocolate, bourbon, raisin, cherry, and savory depth.

The taste follows. Rich malty notes of caramel and dark chocolate complemented by raisin, cherry, and bourbon. Medium sweetness and low booze. Amazing.

The mouthfeel is medium+ for the style.

Overall, excellent. Highly recommended. Complex and decadent yet balanced and smooth.

Pours moderately syrupy, dark coppery brown with a finger of head that vanishes completely. Nice legs when swirled. Raisin, oak, green tobacco, and treacle on the nose. Perfect levels of oxidation on the palate for my tastes, so I'm glad I didn't stick this in the back of a shelf to forget about it for years. Brown sugar, red grapes, tannins, boozy heat, light vanilla and floral hop character from the Goldings.

This one pours a creamy looking dark brown, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like toffee, brown sugar, maple, dark fruit, port, spicy bourbon, oak, and vanilla.

Like pretty much every barleywine that preceded this one in the series, this is quite excellent. They've maybe gotten a little bit sweeter over time, but it's still a delicious sweetness. There's all sorts of complex maltiness - toffee, maple, brown sugar, vanilla, dark fruit, maybe a little bit of caramel and chocolate. There's a nice oak character and a little bit of bourbon.

This is medium bodied, with no real booziness to it, and a nice drinkability.

I always very much look forward to this release each year, and it does not disappoint.

Deep, mahogany brown body topped with a one-finger thick head, dense and creamy with some arcs and patches of foam sticking to the glass. Sweet, burnt sugar and toffee nose; dried, dark fruits. Rich caramel, brown sugar, and toffee flavors; subdued booziness; tobacco; licorice. Heavy body; thick and chewy; sticky; big residual sugar mouthfeel; alcohol warmth complements the sweetness.

This is a beautiful beast of a beer. Enjoy it and be rewarded with depth and richness of the senses. Huge yet with balance and amazing complexity. Simply awesome!

Poured at 49 °F; 2021 bottling.

22oz bottle served in a snulip. Date on the label is April 1st 2021.

Pours a deep brown, somewhat murky, with a tiny to non-existent head and little visible carbonation. Smell is a lot of dark dried fruit -- definite booze, some oak.

Taste is very sweet, lots of raisins and dates. Strong date flavor. Some syrupy flavor somewhere between molasses and maple, some tea flavor.

Mouthfeel is thick, almost chewy, but not sticky -- pretty nice. Overall, good, but dominated by that date/syrupy flavor.
