English-Style Barleywine Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels

Fremont Brewing began as a dream in 2008. Years later, our dream has come true in each and every one of you, our craft beer family. And like every family, we have had our ups and our downs, but we keep coming back together knowing we are stronger together. In your hands is a special nod to you, a gift for now that will continue to give many years from now should you have the patience to wait…Brew 5000. This English-style barleywine ale uses floor-malted English barley, Noble hops, and is aged in 10-15 year-old, single use bourbon barrels for 16 months to bring you a complex and subtle craft beer flavor experience. We brewed this to celebrate brewing our 5000th brew, and we look forward to sharing it with you, our craft beer family. “Barleywine Is Life." – You

Appearance: Pours a clear root beer color with a thin beige film that disappears; leggy but no lace

Smell: Treacle, fig, date and dried cherry embellished by Bourbon and oak

Taste: Dried fruit and treacle forward with the fig and date arriving first with big dried cherry tones emerging, in the middle; might be some peach in the mix, as well; the Bourbon and oak arrive, with the swallow, and complement the other flavors through the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: Just superb; the best English barleywine I have tasted in quite some time and I do love a good English barleywine

Thanks, JohnGalt1, for the opportunity

22oz. Waxed and capped bottle into a Side Project snifter.

Nice thin, oily legs. No head, no lace. Color is a dark mahogany. Nose is molasses, pancake syrup, raisin, brown sugar, and booze. Deep and rich. Beer opens raisin and prunes. Caramel, brown sugar, and molasses in the middle. Touch of barrel and tobacco in the middle. More barrel, anise, and molasses in the aftertaste. Not overly sweet. Great complexity and barrel presence. Body is medium to full with low carbonation. Slick and oily on the palate and goes down boozy with a long, lingering, rich aftertaste.

These just keep getting better and better!

Dull and turbid dark brown, feigning black, with a thin khaki head dying to an unevenly bubbly collar.

Though starting with intensely distinct brown sugar and maple, it's not too sweet because of a contrasting bourbon char and dark fruit counterpunch.

Side by side with Arabesque b1, I began to also find this to be suddenly woodier, while also exhibiting a lightly boozy lozenge characteristic.

Sweet caramel and brown-sugar malty, dark fruity raisins, and a cinnamon vanilla bourbon boozy nose on this one! Taste follows with a well-balanced, sweet toffee malty, brown sugar, and an integrated bourbon finish. A little more bourbon warmth comes out as it warms and opens up. This is drinking fantastic at the moment! This is phenomenal!

Pours a fizzy semi small head with fair retention, fair lacing, dark cold brown color

Nose some dark malts but no roast, burnt caramel, toffee, hint of candied dark fruits, mild waxy oxidation, little chocolate, baking spices, raisin

Taste is quite sweet, syrupy heavy sugar, molasses, caramel, toffee, condensed caramelized sugar, little dark toasted brown malt, mild bitterness, little vanilla, faint waxy oxidation, mild baking spices and dark fruits, raisin, butterscotch, no barrel, sticky sweet finish

Mouth is fuller bod, a bit rich but not really chewy, syrupy sticky sweet though, lower carb

Overall this was a mess, no barrel at all, really sweet and sticky which was unpleasant, flavors and aromas were also mostly just the sweet sugar characters. I def won't finish this

Received from my sender in NBW BIF #15 (Thanks Jammin!)
Poured the color of strong tea and had a manilla colored 1” head.
The aroma was mild for me (chemically damaged nose) but sweet malts did tilt through.
The taste, oh the taste. I had a bomber to myself and I still wanted more. Smooth and slightly sweet and full tilt malts swirl with oak and bourbon for a superb flavor. I seriously considered not brushing my teeth tonight so I could keep tasting it,
The feel was excellent, I sipped the entire thing over 90 minutes and it was good.
Thanks Jammin, this was really, really good!
