My favorite from Fremont! A really hoppy IPA with a killer nose on it

Bottle from Safeway-Ephrata. Back to pure classic NW IPA. Thick, fluffy head (which lasts for a while), medium amber body. Hops on the nose and follow through to the taste. Caramel malts still evident in the taste, finishes with some lingering bitterness. Nice!

12oz can, from the single-friendly (beer and people, I suppose) environs of the Idaho Pour Authority in Sandpoint. The label proclaims this as a 'session beer' (soon they all will), but at 6.2% ABV, that's pushing credibility, methinks.

This beer pours a hazy, medium golden amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and mostly bubbly ecru head, which leaves some low-lying, sudsy floating island lace around the glass as it genially recedes.

It smells of musty pine and floral forest bitters, doughy caramel malt, free-range yeast, ethereal black and white pepper mill dust, scallions, and a tame grapefruit and orange-led citrus fruitiness. The taste is bready, doughy caramel malt, muted citrus pith, a still prominent gritty piney, leafy, and floral bitterness, hollow rainbow peppercorn esters, ephemeral, but ya know they're there green onion notes, and just a twinge of metallic alcohol.

The carbonation is quite low on the ol' froth-o-meter's output scale, but supportive enough otherwise, the body a decent middleweight, and mostly smooth, a few of those varied hop astringencies wafting about, up to no good. It finishes off-dry, a lingering heady maltiness doing well to parry any remaining bitterness.

Overall, not really my cup of (hop) tea, in that the chosen varietals seems at odds with each other, as well as my usually forgiving palate. Not enough crisp citrus, and too much savoury cooking stuff, is the only way that I can sum it up, or dumb it down, if you prefer.
