On Tap at Fremont.

A - Served in a pint glass. Dark brown, almost black with a creamy smooth tan head that just sits on top. It fades slowly leaving tons of lacing on the glass.

S - Roasted malts and coffee. Some suble hops come out as well.

T - Very Roasty and coffee tones. Some booze is detected with a dry hoppy finish.

D - Heavier body with good carbonation.

O - Solid porter, but nothing to go crazy about. Fremont should barrel this one. That would be perfect.

I had this on-tap in a taster glass at the Fremont tap room.

Appearance: extremely dark brown, nearly black, but apparently without much in the way of haze. Head is a thin layer of white tan foam which leaves a very nice lace as it dissipates.

Smell: very light roast aroma. Good, but the volume could really be turned up.

Taste: roasty but smooth; there is a real dryness to this beer that works well for me. Finish is kind of bitter and astringent — I like it. It leaves me wanting more.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess. Nice.

Overall: this is dark and roasty and definitely not terribly user-friendly. But I like it anyway.
