The big dense meringue head is dark beige, starting at 2" then gradually settles without fading. The beer is very dark brown, with a dark reddish-cola halo. While it is very dark, it does appear to be clear. Patches of lace coat the Harp Nonic.

The aroma has strong fruity malt and clean, fresh brewed coffee. The coffee is more of an accent than a focus. Mild spices and faint anis perforate the mildly charred smoke. As it warms some milk chocolate come out, followed by dark toasted wheat bread.

Nice, pleasantly roasted bitterness up front and lingering through mild sweetness.
Deep roasted malt allows black coffee to weave throughout as an accompaniment. Mild smoke and faint sourness of milk chocolate. The finish has a quick bitter bite, followed by modest black coffee gradually fading into the distance.

A medium to light body, with light alcohol and a watery texture. Carbonation is moderately high, just enough to leave a mark. There are slight metallic notes and residual sugar builds on the lips.

The one has an Autumnal feel, even if that is just the power of suggestion. One could easily spend an afternoon, enjoying casual conversation with friends in a pub which drinking this one.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle dated 9/12/2023 into a pint glass.
L - Pours a dark brown, almost black color with a medium tan head.
S - Smells of coffee.
T - Tastes of bitter coffee.
F - The body is on the lighter side, with medium carbonation.
O - I would have liked it a tad better if it was thicker, but it’s still a very good coffee stout.

16.9oz bottle purchased from the fridge for $7.99. Bottled on 12SEP23, so this is almost eight weeks old.

Look: It's quite dark, almost jet black, with a light brown colored head. There was about two fingers of head that slowly dissipated to a thin layer. The bottom of the snifter is letting a bit of light through with a dark brown cola color.

Smell: Initially, there is a lot of earthy, oily hoppiness coming in the nose. It reminds me a bit of Cascade. After settling, the hop-forward notes subside and the coffee notes become more predominant. It smells very roasty, a bit fruity and citrusy, and mildly sweet. There's also a bit of creaminess on the nose. It smells nice.

Taste: It's tasty. Up front, it's a bold, roasty coffee stout. It's evident that high quality coffee has been used here. The acidity is relatively low, probably because it's made with cold brew coffee. The finish has lots of roasty notes along with some hop bitterness. It finishes relatively dry with notes of baking chocolate. It's a very interesting contrast between the roasty, chocolately notes of the stout and the citrusy, piney notes of the hops. It's almost like a black "breakfast blend" kind of coffee. I'm definitely surprised to see on the website that this beer is brewed with lactose because it does not taste sweet at all and brewers usually list that on the bottle. Also very different for Lemondrop hops to be used in a stout.

Feel: It's a bit thin for a stout, I would say that it is just shy of medium bodied. The carbonation is nice though, very soft.

Overall: I think that it would be ideal to drink this beer at cellar temperature; I probably didn't wait long enough after removing it from my refrigerator. It's a well-made coffee stout; I just feel that it falls (pun not intended) a bit short compared to some other coffee stouts I have had. It reminds me a bit of a smaller version of Victory Storm King, which is a very hoppy stout that uses tons of Cascade.

From the website:

Flavor profile: Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and molasses. Notes of cedar and pine.
Hops: Lemondrop, HBC 472, Cascade
Malt: American 2-Row, Blue Ox Wheat, Pilsner, Munich 10L, Dark Chocolate, Blackprinz, Valley Malt Chocolate Rye, Lactose

Look:
Pours a deep black color with very mild hues of mahogany brown around the edges of the glass. Generates a finger and a half of fine, densely compacted beige foam that laces the glass moderately.

Aroma:
Some off sour notes... very odd. On the nose musky, slightly smokey over-brewed espresso grinds. Chocolate covered raisins and red apple tarts. Faint notes of wet-cardboard (in a pleasant way). Some ashy notes of burnt toast or toasted bourbon barrel staves.

Taste:
Very gentle for a stout... a bit too timid and bland. Upfront some good flavors of smoky, acidic roasted coffee and milk chocolate but that's just about it. No real lingering aftertaste or complexity to the flavor. If I really keep it on my palate for a good while I can get some tart flavor of apple and just the lightest note of pie crust or pastry dough, but it's so faint it's almost not worth mentioning.

Feel:
Quite crisp for the style. Little to no carbonation, somewhat flat. Body is light but still on the mid weight spectrum, on a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being full bodied I'd say its about a 4.5 or so. I'm really not a fan.

Overall:
I've never had a "bad" beer from MBC but this one is a tad underwhelming, especially for the price (just under $20 a bottle after tax). The texture is a bit too thin and the flavor profile a tad too restrained and unassertive for my preference in stouts. A very timid and "polite" interpretation of the style - I think they were trying to brew something that would appeal to the masses here, something approachable and subtle, but it just doesn't have any discernable characteristics or impactful flavors for my liking. I wouldn't buy this again but I'm glad I tried it.

excellent coffee stout. 2023 edition. Coffee notes come through on the back of the pallet, along with dark chocolate. Not bitter, roasty and sweet; balanced

Pours a deep dark brown with khaki head. It's not super spritzy. Not much head retention for a MBC beer. Coffee, coconut, and oats on the nose. It's not super coffee forward. There's some roast, some hop character, but I'm not getting much in the form of coffee.

I got a bottle of this beer from my local beer store located just around the corner. It poured an opaque dark with very thin tan ring head that did not leave any lace. The scent had roast and coffee notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with roast malt base with espresso highlights. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Picked up a pint bottle from TW-Greenville, SC 10-7-22 for $8.99. Bottled 9-27-22; consumed 2-16-23. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer pour dark brown with a gorgeous long lasting tan head.

Nose is mild roasted malts with a hint of coffee.

Taste is a lighter malt base that is lightly roasted. Getting notes of chocolate and coffee. Finishes nicely balanced. Post sip flavor hangs around nicely.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall a nice beer but way overpriced for what you get.

Sampling a cellar temp 16.9 fl oz bottle with a date stamp of Sept 27 2022. Picked this up at the brewery in October.
the beer pours a pitch black dark coffee color and no light passes through my glass. A soft fluffy beige head foams up almost 3 cm and almost overtops my glass, but not quite. Foam fades to a sturdy surface covering and leaves scattered lattice on the glass as is fades.
The aroma is roasted malt and coffee grounds with faint hints of chocolate and a light sweetness. Overall the coffee dominates the nose. Not really any hop profile to speak of on the nose.
The first sip reveals a medium body with fine, gentle rolling carbonation and generally smooth texture. Beer drinks very easy for the physical traits.
Flavor is a lot of roasted malts and coffee with a little sweetener and some light chocolate notes. The chocolate is actually what lingers and there isnt any real hop profile nor any booziness.
This is a pretty easy drinking beer that is very straightforward for what it is and I am enjoying its simplicity.
A well made beer that doesnt have any flaws.

Bottle from Hudson and Charles on the UWS NYC. Pours black with two fingers of rocky light tan head that sticks around, nice lacing; smell is dark roasted malts, chocolate Rice Krispies, black coffee, hints of chocolate cake and grassy hops; taste is mild roasted dark malts, black coffee, dates, dry chocolate coke, hints of vanilla as it warms, hoppy finish, nice mild coffee lingers at the palate; feel is light flirting with thin, smooth carbonation, dry finish. Light and mild, subtle coffee, chocolate and hoppy finish, very nice cold brew roast coffee character lingers.
