It’s the start of a new decade, but 2020 also marks the 200th anniversary of the state of Maine. We have a lot of things in the works for this year, but we’re going to start with the announcement of our Bicentennial IPA.
Brewed with Centennial hops (seemed appropriate) and 100% Maine-grown grains, we brewed this beer in celebration of our state, its people and history.

The pour seemed clear as the bubbles washed towards the bottom of the glass before swirling in a u-turn and darting towards the sky in a random rush. The beer settled in with a bit of haze to it, about what was expected, and the etched glass was helping support a bright white fuzzy cap.
The aromas didn't continue their rush to my nose, but I was getting a grassy to green pine needle aromas. After taking a second to just savor a third of the glass, I get back to the which still seems a bit grassy, but I am also getting a bit of rotting citrus peels and a hint of something somewhat floral.
My history with the brew and the pale color does not belie the expected malt profile - it's there to give the hops a floor to dance on. It's got a light white bread aspect at most, found underneath a mostly grassy bitterness that morphs towards piney. The aftertaste leans towards sappy pine. As I drink through the beer, I started noticing a small bit of wheat (seemingly husky thanks to the bitterness) in the opening malt profile. But overall, I get pine, bread, and floral in degrees that agree with Maine's own tasting notes.
Overall, this comes as a beer with cleaner malts backed by moderate bitter hops that start fairly mild, but grow and have a pretty long life beyond each sip. There is something holding this beer back to me, and I think it's that the opening seems to set up the beer's back end bitterness, but there is a point in the middle with the floral or whatever seems to throw the beer in a little tailspin briefly and I'd rather it not be there.

Bitter and citrus forward. Right up there with Dinner, Lunch, and Another One for me.

Pours lightly hazy gold color with a 2 finger bright white head. Aroma is lightly sweet and vaguely tropical but very fresh. A little yeast and pale malt too. Taste is similar with some warm spice up front with some nice citrus. The finish has more bitterness and some light yeast - nicely balanced all around. Feel is crisp and fresh. Very subtle.this is a great summer all, light and fresh.

A: Pours a golden yellow color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a decent cap that leaves good lacing
S: Mostly earthy and floral hops up front along with a touch of citrus and pine
T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the earthy, floral, and spicy hops up front followed by a more mellowed citrus and pine. Some grainy notes as well. Moderately bitter. Finishes with lingering citrus and earthy tones
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation
O: Another great one-off by MBC. Super drinkable and extremely well balanced. Centennial is definitely at the front of the hop train. Worth a drink, as always is the case from MBC
