Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

Pours a dark reddish copper color with a huge off-white head. The nose is both bready and hoppy. The body is much lighter than expected. The flavor is also flatter than the nose would indicate. There is a hoppy semi-dry finish but there isn't much of a bitter punch.

On tap at Bonds Tavern in West Orange. Pours a ruddy, amber hue with moderate frothing. Mild aroma replete with hints of caramel and molasses. Similar overall flavor profile. Not bad.

16.9 oz bottle, bottled on 12-13, had this beer on 12-24. Super fresh as always when it comes to Maine! Fresh, hoppy amber. I could drink this all day.

From mdfb79 - huge thanks Dan!

Pours a beautiful reddish copper color with a dense 2 finger head of light khaki cream. Mostly clear and ruby like with fantastic head retention that reduces to a solid lingering cap. Soapy lacing clings all around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation present. Aromas of succulent grapefruit and pine with orange zest, orange rind, tangerine, dank herbs and pineapple flowing into a bed of caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, and brown sugar malts. Finishes with more citrus fruit and a floral/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of the fresh hop and darkened malt notes; very potent. Flavors unleash more grapefruit, orange zest, spruce, and fresh cut cedar with tangerine and light pineapple/mango. The caramel malt and browned toast with toffee, raisin, and brown sugar sweetness folds in and out of the hops with great ease and balance of flavors. I get flashes of milk chocolate nuttiness as the finish becomes more earthy and floral with grass and pine bitterness on the finish; some lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest/ring, and tangerine. This has some fantastic complexity while maintaining a very simple approach. For an overly hopped Amber ale it is remarkably well balanced by the dark malt flavors and easy to down. Fits well within a moderately crisp bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors on after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately creamy and fairly slick/sticky mouth feel. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a mild warming sensation. Overall this is a highly excellent imperial red! All around awesome balance and complexity of hop and dark malt flavors; and very resinous yet crisp and refreshing to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering from Maine Beerco.

Pours a deep amber color with a small, off-white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.

Smells of some pine and citrus hops along with toasted malt.

Tastes of the toasted malts layered with some hops. Malts lead off with notes of caramel, toffee, and brown sugar. This gives way to some molasses and more burnt flavors. Hops come next with citrus and pine mostly. Some dark fruits comes towards the end before a malty finish.

Mouthfeel is medium-full with a smooth amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a nicely done amber.

Pours a deep amber color, slightly cloudy with a thick, well retained tan head that left lots of lacing. Smells of roasted malts, citrus and caramel. Tastes of orange rind, roasted malts, caramel, pepper with a hint of toffee and chocolate. Finishes moderately bitter. Moderately carbonated, smooth and creamy mouth feel, an excellent beer.
