Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

16 oz bottle ($6.99) born on 7/9/13.

A: Ruddy, muddy. You could tell me Zoe was a porter and I'd believe it. Head retention way above average and lacing is huge, huge, huge.

S: Some caramel, but mostly citrus hops. Also something roasty lurking, probably from toasted malt.

T: Citrus flavor lead nice and bright at the front, especially huge, beautiful grapefruit. This slowly evolves into the back end, which features more a dank, earthy taste that isn't quite my thing, but it's a neat process and a fabulously executed beer.

M: Nice. Quite drying, as all MBC beers seem to be.

O: Completely distinct hop effects from Lunch, Peeper, or MO, and once again at or near the top of its style class. More impeccable execution by MBC.

Bottled 7-9-2013
drank 7-20-2013... it says drink fresh and I'm inclined to listen

A: Looks beautiful amber to brown with some red hues, a foamy off white/ tan head very nice lacing

S: Smells resinous, hoppy, piney with some dark malt going on

T: Tastes like a mix between a very good piney, dank IPA (reminded me of pliny) and a brown /amber ale. One of the better attempts at achieving true IPA hopppiness in a darker beer. Almost has the same effect as a black IPA, but much more smooth than most

M: Average IPA hoppy bite nothing special

O: A really good brew, the `1st I have tried from Maine. I like it, its not only different but it pulls off being different.

Bottled 07MAY13

Pours amber with a gingerbread hue and a solid quilt of toasted cream foam. Smells of hops from the pour, now I will dive in.... Very northwest: pine, resin, some grapefruit, some tea, Special B malt here on the nose (or the likes), and a bit of stones. Flavor is malt, tea, hops, some really aromatic character I just can't put my finger on, some toasted wheat bread. The flavor here is surprising and quite nice. Fairly full bodied for the style with low carb and a semi dry finish. I am really impressed with this beer. I'm happy with the divisive character of the nose vs flavor on this one. I am met initially with the impression that this will be a robust, in-your-face amber a la Troegs, but am met with a sophisticated, mature flavor profile hard to beat for the style in my opinion. A real treat of the style.
