Maine Beer Company
Maine, United States

Style: American Amber / Red Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our take on an American amber ale. Complex malt bill delivers notes of dark raisin, chocolate and biscuit. Copious additions of American hops yield notes of pine and citrus.

16.9 oz bottle poured into a tulip.

Appearance: Pours a dark amber with some red around the edges. Fairly heavy carbonation and a big cream head. Moderate lacing.

Aroma: This beer has a piny, buttery, biscuity, grassy smell. It's appealing for sure. Very aromatic.

Taste: Raisins and dark fruit dominate the taste of this beer, which also has a booze kick and hefty malt presence. There's also biscuit, grass and apricot. Some mild figs, too, and some noticeable citrus.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied beer, which is a good depth for this beer, because a heavier body would make it a little too "big." It's reasonably dense, but approachable.

Overall: Sip it, savor it, and enjoy it. Another great beer from MBC, everyone's favorite simple-label-loving brewery. You really don't need to go nuts on bottle designs when your beer is this well crafted. It strikes me as kind of an IPA/amber hybrid, and will appeal to fans of either.

500ml bottle, a bit past its 90 day freshness date (dated 4/15/14) poured into a pint glass
A: Amber with a hint of red and a lingering one-finger head
S: Solid roasted malt, a bit metallic, some earthy notes and a bit of the mentioned raisin
T: Roasted malts, nutty and a solid hop presence
M: Medium-bodied
O: I'll have to find a fresher bottle but even as is this is very well made, so far I have yet to have a bad beer from Maine & wish they were available locally
