Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

Lunch is a special whale that has been spotted off the Maine coast since 1982. She has what looks like a bite taken out of her fin, which adds to her unique character. We dedicate this beer to her determination and persistence.

Keep on swimming!

Doesn’t hit you in the face like the haze bombs of today. But really has no flaws. Great head and retention. Tropical yet earthy smell. Taste follows with grapefruit and orange with a biscuit malty without being chewy or sweet. Great soft feel incredible drinkability.

Bottled Jan 23, enjoyed Feb 23, so reasonably fresh. Pours golden orange with haze, but nothing like the haze bombs of the day, and I appreciate that about it. It’s pours an inch or two of white head that is stable as hell, refuses to fully fall, and it leaves plenty of pretty lacing on the side of the glass. Smell is typical of classic American ipa, with grapefruit leading the way, with orange pith and a touch of earthiness as well. Taste starts soft and gentle with lots of orange character, like many of the hazier beers that have flooded the market, but dries out and finishes with grapefruit pith and a touch of piney character that lingers after you swallow. Feel is medium to light in body, but feels substantial. Overall, this beer is simple and damn near perfect in that way. Like everything this brewery puts out, its simple beers made right. Exactly right.

1/16/18. A west-coast-like golden pour with one of the most beautiful heads I've ever seen. It's tall, mountainous, and like a baking soda volcano.

Aroma of white pine needles, grapefruit rind, passion fruit, oats, and hay.

Sip this with the head in tact and it's a totally different experience. Flavor starts with passion fruit, lots of passion fruit. Grapefruit on the tip of the tongue, orange and more orange as it fades to the back. A finish of total juicy orange. So much citrus character. A little pine. As the head recedes the pine and woodiness come out a lot more.

Feel is crisp, semi-creamy, and resinous.

Overall a total knockout. A really impressive non-hazy IPA that incorporates fruits in a non-shake like manner. Interesting.

Bottled 1/16/18, tasted 2/18/18
Poured with a great two fingers of head. Head retention ok, not great.

Smell: citrusy, not super strong, but smelled great

Taste: first impression, a thin head and body. Tasted nice citrus and pine. Not overpowering. The lingering hops were delicious. The body seemed a little thin at first but after pouring the second half of the bottle, felt a little more full.

This beer is hard to find in CT and at first I was a little let down after hearing how good it is. After having half the pint, the lingering hops on my pallet really made me understand how good this beer is.

Look-Pale amber, hazy. Creamy persistent head, excellent lacing.
Smell-Passes the 3-foot test. Upon opening, aroma wafts into the kitchen.
Taste-Beautifully balanced, complex hops blend over good malt base.
Feel--Full and smooth, with perfect carbonation. Very good.
Overall--A fine example of its type. I'll gladly return.
Full disclosure: I drank this on February 9, 5 months after I bought it from the brewery. My bad. What can I say, I live in Pennsylvania and have to hoard these NE beers.
