Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

Lunch is a special whale that has been spotted off the Maine coast since 1982. She has what looks like a bite taken out of her fin, which adds to her unique character. We dedicate this beer to her determination and persistence.

Keep on swimming!

Bottled a week ago, picked up at the brewery for $6.

L — Pours a slightly hazy bright orange with a two-finger white head produced with moderately aerated pour. Good retention and great lacing
S — Melon, honey, flowers, peach, grapefruit, pine, and a hint of papaya and black tea
T — Big resinous, herbaceous, pithy character upfront, followed by a mellow, melon-sweetness. Crisp, dry malt profile
F — Very crisp, refreshing, West Coast 2.0 style IPA. Medium+ carb, medium mouthfeel. A little astringency on the tail end
O — I dig this ‘Maine IPA’ substyle: a crisp, clean APA-style mouthfeel and malt profile alongside a barrage of West Coast 2.0 hoppiness. Works perfectly with the landscape of the land up here. Shares a lot in common with Pliny the Elder. Better without the yeast mixed in

Picked-up a single twenty-five ounce bottle at Cedarville Wine and SpiritSpiritsee for about eight dollars. I have had this beer before, and swore off of it due to the price. Having not seen it for at leat a year, I pulled the trigger. I think that this is a good, not great IPA, at an obsene price. I am baffled at how MBC stays in business. Would not drink again if dying of thirst.
