Maine Beer Company
Maine, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our “East Coast” version of a West Coast-style IPA. Intense hop flavors and aromas of tropical and citrus fruits and pine dominate. A subtle malt sweetness brings the beer into balance.

Lunch is a special whale that has been spotted off the Maine coast since 1982. She has what looks like a bite taken out of her fin, which adds to her unique character. We dedicate this beer to her determination and persistence.

Keep on swimming!

A 25 ounce bottle from inlimbo77; thank you for this big "Want!" This label also deserves mention; it's a parchment-like paper with minimalist printing that is simply gorgeous person. An artistic beauty both inside and outside of the bottle, but I'm getting ahead of myself now...

Pours a rich gold color with what seem to be ruby hues throughout the body. About an inch of fluffy, pillowy, pure-white head develops, but dissipates after a minute or so; gobs of lacing remain. The aroma is of spicy hops, pine resin, orange citrus, lemon zest, various grains (straw, hay, wheat), and a muddled earthen sensation. It tastes of spicy hops, bitter/piney hops, various citruses, straw, and wet earth (read dirt, but in the best possible way; strange, yes). It is surprisingly delicious (or unsurprisingly, given your expectations; either way, it’s damn tasty). Mouthfeel is crisp, and finishes clean. Overall, a very good IPA that I’m very happy to have finally tried. I’ve been eyeing this one for a while, and Bill deserves another mention for his generosity.

50 cL bottle poured into a couple wine glasses.

A: Opaque golden color with a white lacy head.

S: Citrus hops, orangy, very aromatic, not complex but a fantastic nose.

T: Wow, very hoppy. Excellent. Again, not overly complex but simple bitter hops with lightly sweet finish.

O: I believe this is the best IPA I have had. It is difficult to find but I would highly recommend it.

500ml bottle courtesy of mtardiff

A-Bottle poured into my cbs snifter. Reddish brown with a huge white head. The bubbles remain and it looks sticky.

S-Lots of mild flowers, a little bit like burned leaves, syrup and damp wood.

T-I am getting a lot of rose for some reason. There is a bitter after taste but its overall just mellow. I can't quite identify the hops but its not like anything I have had before.

M-So smooth and sticky in the mouth with a nice little bitterness.

O-This is an awesome beer. Expensive though but worth it once in a while. For what it is there are better options I guess but I love Maine Beer, this is my second having from them and I think they are just spectacular.
