Maine Beer Company
Maine, United States

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our first run at an American Pale Ale. Flavors and aromas of zesty citrus, passionfruit, and pine present themselves throughout. A very subtle malt sweetness for balance, but this is intended to finish dry.

Just after opening our brewery, working long nights, weekends, and still maintaining our day jobs, my brother Daniel (the brewer) had twins. Cheers to his courage and dedication to making better beer.

5/4/2014 bottle date poured into a pint glass.

A: Hazy straw color with a foamy white one finger head that leaves an large amount of lace. No visible carbonation.

S: Strong hop notes of grapefruit and pine. A hint of sweet notes along the lines of mango, passion fruit and papaya.

T: Generic bitter citrus hop notes. Long, moderately dry and tart finish with notes of pine and citrus pith.

M: Moderately carbonated with a lingering dryness.

D: Highly drinkable, though I was disappointed that the sweeter fruit notes did not translate through to the taste. It's extremely fresh, crisp, which seems to be the trend with MBC beers.

A- cloudy golden hue. Big frothy ivory head (creamy like meringue). Very light lacing.

S- earthy, lightly floral, herbaceous, very piney and resinous.

T- some spice, fairly tart. Moderately bitter. Surprisingly, given the pine and resin nose, not much of that came through in the taste.

M- medium, crisp.

O- a solid beer. Good. Slightly disappointed as I'd never had a Maine Beer Co. beer and was really looking forward to it, given their reputation. I wouldn't argue with anyone who thinks it's great, but not worth having again, for me.

Crisp, fresh, excellent balance. I could drink MO all night. This pale ale has the perfect amount of hoppiness to make me a happy guy.

Maine is quickly becoming my favorite brewery. I can't pass up the opportunity to try any of their beers. This one lives up to the small amount of hype built around it. Can't wait to have Lunch one day!!!
