Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our first run at an American Pale Ale. Flavors and aromas of zesty citrus, passionfruit, and pine present themselves throughout. A very subtle malt sweetness for balance, but this is intended to finish dry.

Just after opening our brewery, working long nights, weekends, and still maintaining our day jobs, my brother Daniel (the brewer) had twins. Cheers to his courage and dedication to making better beer.

Bottle served with a light chill into tulip glass. Produced a large white head with great retention and lacing. Beer itself was a slightly hazy orange gold. Very attractive.

S: hop forward, and yet juicy and sweet, mandarines, sweet caramel, woodsy, florals are prominent, some peppercorn, apples, light and fragrant, but with serious flavour. Also a bit of a dank/funky aspect.

T: some fruity mandarine and grapefruit, bitter light pine notes. Sweet apple and fruity with florals, dank pine, a bit of a crisp salty lychee and passionfruit. Leaves a pleasant drying aftertaste, with florals and a balanced earthy bitterness.

M: carbonation is light, body is quite light with a smooth malts, hints of caramel, with a slight coating hop oiliness. Has a light bitterness with a smooth profile and a light balanced hop finish.

Combines a very fragrant hop aroma with a complex flavour and a highly sessionable profile, I could drink this all night with no complaints. Taste has lots of complexies, smooth green fruits, citrus, and florals with pine and earthy undertones. Carbonation felt on the low side but it really helped the hops come through. Comes highly recommended. Delightful beer and shows excellent character as it warms.

1 pint 0.9 fl oz. bottle, with bottled on date 05/06/2014 printed on the label. So this is some pretty fresh beer right here, considering it came to me all the way from Maine. My third beer from Maine Beer Company, expectations are high given this beer's high ratings.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a bright golden orange colored body with some semi-clarity and some fine sediment in the glass. Three fingers of thick off-white foamy head with excellent staying power. Very rocky, like the head on a root beer float. The second pour is a much more cloudy orange.

S - The smell is bright, fresh, fruity, floral, and tropical. Notes of pine needles, oranges, mangoes, lemon, grass, and citrus peels. Smells very fresh and juicy.

T - The taste is on par with the nose, but the earthy bready malt and yeast have taken the front seat to the hops. Fruity hop bitterness - grapefruit, orange, lemon rinds, pine resin. All the flavors are in nice balance with each other.

M - The feel is crisp, clean, and smooth. Easy-drinking with a moderate 6.00% abv. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation with the bottle conditioning.

Overall, a lovely example of the style. Lovingly crafted and executed. Perhaps the abv could stand to be toned down just a smidge, but otherwise, it is a wonderful beer, at a nice price point, in a nice single serving bottle. I would definitely drink this again; highly recommended.

Super drinkable and a great clean mouth feel. Not overly hoppy and not the typical tropical fruit bomb every other brewery is pushing out these days. At around 6% ABV you can have a few and not be disturbing the neighbors. Enjoyed this one sitting by the campfire on a cool night. I recommend you do the same.

Bottled on 5/6/14

Appearance: Big head of about three fingers on the pour. Bold orange color with a murky transparency. Sticky rings of lacing left behind at each level. Below to average active carbonation in glass while drinking.

Smell: Definitely big pine front. Crisp, sharp medium bodied fruits play well off the pine lead-in. Resinous pine continues to dominate into the body. A touch of a bready, caramelized malt body is found on the back end.

Taste: Surprising fruity front with highlights of melon, apricots, and tangerines. That tangerine sweetness continues to open up on the body and joins force with a bready malt backbone. Some mildly bitter pine is picked up on the body but isn't as big of a player as I expected after the aroma. The slightly dry finish give a great opportunity for the medium bodied fruits to continue to shine through.

Mouthfeel: Pleasant blast of fruits, malt, and some pine yields to a balanced finish which continues to allow those tones to showcase themselves. Carbonation is bright and adds a pleasant crisp texture while drinking.

Overall: Another fantastic offering from MBC. Would never hesitate to try an offering from these guys. Seek it out.
