Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a half inch dark tan head that was well retained and left little lacing. Smells and tastes of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, hops and some smoke. Medium to heavy bodied for the style, lightly carbonated, creamy mouth feel. A bit pricey but worth it.

It poured a very dark, browish black and left the same color body. A beautiful foamy lumpy mocha colored head appeared and lasted for a good minute. Some lightly speckled lacing appeared around the sides of the pint glass. No carbonation was seen rising due to the dark body, only one ring at the top of the pint glass, I like it. The smell had the coffee up front with some light tobacco chocolate in the background. The taste was basically the same, nothing really different. The palate was about a medium and a very nice smoothness and creaminess on the tongue. Overall, I’m very impressed and would definitely come back to this.

Thanks goes out to thebeers for this brew.

16.9 oz. Bottle

Poured into a tulip a very nice dark brown color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger tan head, which also leaves some nice islands and sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some pretty nice chocolate/toffee notes, vanilla, slightly roasty. The taste is really nice, malty, roasty, with some really nice chocolate/toffee notes. vanilla. Medium body, ABV hidden very well. Overall, another very tasty brew from MBC.

Poured from the bottle at home. Full-bodied stout-like porter, nice to line up next to Trillium Secret Stairs.

Bottled 3.5 weeks ago.

Nearly black, with a three finger tan head produced with moderate pour. Decent retention, minimal lacing. Light on the nose, which focuses predominantly on roasted barley malts and bittersweet chocolate. The taste, on the other hand, is unexpectedly complex: resinous hops, well-roasted malts, oats, bakers' chocolate, campfire ash, dark roast coffee, and a hint of copper on the finish. Robust but not overpowering mouthfeel, with a great balance of carbonation. Like with their Peeper Ale, I found this beer to be slightly overpriced for what it is (~$6 for a 17oz bottle) -- Sierra Nevada's stout is quite similar, and less than half the price.
