500ml bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown color. The head is almost two fingers high and khaki in shade. A soft texture and decent retention give it appeal, and the lacing left behind is plentiful. (4)

Smell: I like the robust hopping coming through - piny, grassy, herbaceous, yet slightly citrusy, it provides a great ballast to the malt backbone. It's roasty, but with additional chocolate and brown sugar. Dark fruits appear after a while. The hop/malt balance, despite the power of the former, is almost bang-on; that really helps display its complexity better. (4)

Taste: Hop notes hit the palate first. While I get a good amount of pine and grass, it shows enough restraint so that it doesn't bombard the palate with bitterness. The maltiness shows up past the mid-taste: brown sugar, dark fruits, and light chocolate make themselves known to the taste buds. I love the interplay between the maltiness and the hop profile in this one. (4.25)

Mouthfeel: Very much a porter in feel, it's light-bodied and has a slightly sharp texture. The residual malts are a little sticky, but at least they provide a long finish. Carbonation is vibrant - along with the hoppiness, it allows this beer to go down very easily. (4)

Overall: I hate how expensive MBC brews are, because they make great stuff like this. It's just an excellent robust porter: hoppy, yet restrained enough to allow the dark malts to shine. Even better, it's nuanced and complex. Dear MBC: put this in 6-packs, right now! (4)

4.1/5: Gorillas were always the most badass of primates, y'know

A-Dark brown, black color with a toffee colored, thin head that clings to the sides of the glass and retains well.

S-Coffee, chocolate, roastiness, hops, a bit earthy. Typical porter notes hit strong but the earthiness and hops come through and blend nicely as well.

T-Similar to the nose. Bold with the roast and coffee profile up front but it fades to a semi sweet chocolate flavor that finishes a bit bitter from the hops and dark chocolate.

MF-Medium to full bodied. Creamy but kind of light and dry on the finish

O-A complex, well balanced Porter. One of the best I've ever had because it is everything a porter should be and more. A bit boozier than normal porters and hoppier as well. The nuance and balance are phenomenal.

Bold, roasty flavor to begin with. And an incredibly smooth finish as expected
