This 7.5% porter pours a pitch black color with a medium creamy tan head. The scent is strongly of roasted malts with a hint of dark chocolate. There is a strong flavor of roasted grain that lingers in my mouth. In the background there are also flavors of dark chocolate, a little pine hoppiness, coffee, and burnt sugar. The finish is a little dry, but not overly so. The body is heavy like any good stout or porter. This is definitely not a weak porter. The flavor is strong and it really stays with you. It’s maybe not as polished as the very top examples of the style, but it is still damn good in a rugged kind of way. It’s definitely a porter worth trying.

Bottled 04/12/16 16.9 oz bottle

Pitch black with a hint of ruby at the edges, opaque. Two finger mocha head

Dark chocolate, got my mouth watering. Raisin, resin and mild hops

Certainly chocolate in the palate, good sweetness at the back. Some hop balance

Good amount of carbonation, a little thinner than expected. A little stickiness 1/3rd of the way through the bottle

Mmmm. A nice American Porter, not overwhelming with sweetness, chocolate or coffee. Just a great dark beer with some hops thrown in for good measure.

Also, mixed 1/3rd Two Roads Road Jam with 2/3rd King Titus which made for a nice Raspberry Porter. A good chocolate raspberry taste with a good beer backbone.

Appearance: dark brown almost black in color with a 1" head that slowly falls to a thick surface covering.

Smell: mild chocolate aroma.

Taste: roasted malt, dark chocolate, dark fruit, an a moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp from start to finish. Long lasting aftertaste.

Overall: a full flavored porter. Easy to drink and satisfying.

Bought this from the brewery, drank within a week. Very disappointing beer. Just lacked flavor. Wish they had it on tap so I didn't waste $6 on a 16.9oz bottle of this beer. A big fan of dark beers, but this just wasn't good, you can find better porters for $10/6pk.

Drank this last night during the Caps-Pens, NHL-game 1(Go Caps!). I'm trying to drink a new craft brew each game. This was a good, dark, strong porter. Really rich dark, color and creamy feel going down. It had notes of chocolate, caramel and licorice. It was a pretty neutral tasting porter making it easy to drink and got better as you drank it. This beer tastes similar to a Founder's porter. The only negative is, at the beginning, my tastebuds would pick up on a slight chemical aftertaste. This could be because of my dislike for any anise/licorice type tastes in any drink or food. Cost = $6.99 (Spruce Creek Provisions-Rt 1 Kittery, ME)
