Maine Beer Company
Maine, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Intensely hoppy American IPA, brewed as the light-colored counterpart to Weez (both beers incorporate the exact same kettle and dry hopping schedule). Another One has a very clean malt palate, leaving little but hoppy resins on the tongue, and finishes dry and crisp.

Bottle Date: 3/21/17
Palate Contaminants: other beer

Appearance is a light straw color, yet it's opaque. Sorta like grapefruit juice. Moderate amount of white head.

The smell is half way to a saison, but imagine it with lots of wheat. Not a lot of fruit, and what is is shaded toward kiwi and starfruit. It just doesn't have a lot of depth or richness.

The taste has some pleasant elements, but nothing is particularly strong. Yeah, there's white grapefruit, pine wood, white raisins, and moss, but none of it really stands out. Still pleasant overall, though.

Medium weight, with coarse carbonation. Aftertaste is bitter with freshly cut white wood.

12-day-old bottle. Pours a hazy pale straw, like a half lemonade half water mixture, with a huge white head that appears rocky at first but settles down to a very creamy layer that leaves a good amount of lace. Nose is crisp fresh hops...more of the simcoe and cascade than the citra to my nose. Taste is full of citrus and pine along with some stone fruit, but very much a dry take with only a bit of cracker backbone. The hops really do shine here with a faux sweetness up front that disappears and leaves a dry firmly bitter finish that tells you this is no orange juice NE IPA for sure. Overall, freaking great. Biggest downside is it is overpriced and I couldn't afford to drink it regularly even if I could get it.

Huge foamy nano-bubble head rests lightly on a dark lemonade body. Poured into a tulip extremely slowly down the side and the head still shot up there. Opaque, but not solid when held to light; finely particulate. Lacing? 10/10

Fresh, fresh light citrus and that beautiful, lofty type of hop aroma rise from the creamy mountain of foam. You know this is going to be a clean, drinkable beauty. A little light overall, if i'm going to say anything negative here.

Mouthfeel is creamy and light, but very full; not watery at all; amazing. Carbonation bite is present but super subdued. This beer has an exceptional feel; truly top notch.

Much less blasting flavor overall than Lunch, and a bit stickier, earthier hops, with less tropical flavors than I expected. More drinkable, though, even if a bit less complex. Nice malt on the finish but a pleasingly comfortable citrus hop experience overall, with a bit of sharpness on the opening. First sip, I didn’t like it as much as Lunch; end of the glass, I’m not sure. Really amazing mouthfeel and overall drinkability. Looking forward to the next time I can have this.

L: A perfect hazy yellow with two fingers of white head.

S: Citrus, pine.

T: Follows nose. Finishes dry.

F: Medium body, moderate to light carbonation.

O: About as perfect a beer as one will have.

Bottle to wine glass, at BYOB Joeys. Cloudy yellow, with big. White head. Nose is citrus, Ash, hops, grapefruit, lemon, floral notes. Taste is more of the same, very tasty. Citrus is most dominant. Smooth feel. A very nice ipa.....up with my favorites. My wife. thinks it is too strong for pizza.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. A hazy golden-yellow color with a rocky white head. Smells like grapefruit pith mixed some pine and straw. Tangy citrus up front on the first sip. Some earthy notes but not dank. The pine is there, too. Medium-bodied but dry and light on the finish. Moderately bitter and assertive, unapologetic. I enjoyed this.

Had this one at a bar in Portland, ME and again from growler station in Greenville, SC. Hoppy citrusy smell...fruit forward taste includes hints of pineapple, mango, and pine. Dry, crisp and somewhat earthy on the end. Very good.

It is, in fact, another great IPA from MBC. Pours the classic Maine clear yellow, with some visible carbonation. The nose is absolutely unbelievable. Citrus fruits and hops explode out of this beer. The palate has the great crisp, clean Maine feel, though the notes aren't quite as prominent as the nose would lead one to expect. Solid mouthfeel, though a touch watery. A great beer on the whole.

500ml bottle, about 10 days old.

Maine Beer Co knows what they're doing. This might be my favorite offering of theirs to date. Masterclass. Price point is awful but this beer is so damn good I won't complain.

This was a new “advertised” at our local craft beer merchant; my Another One was special delivery from Freeport, Maine. I purchased a 22 oz bottle dated 02.21.17 but it was pricey. If you’re in the Freeport area you may not feel that.
I poured 2 finger head my new IPA in a pint glass with a golden color. It had a Piney Hoppy aroma and even better finishing hoppy-resin flavor. The taste was a great balanced IBU with NO biting after taste. 7.0% has it at a great level if you want more than one. It was very pleasing to my palate which ranks it as one of the best craft American IPA’s I have tasted in my short samplings career.
It is a rival to the Heady Topper and I would love to do a taste off Side by Side. It is highly recommended in my book if you love hoppy IPA’s.

Had on tap. Pours hazy, light yellow in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is lemon, tangerine, cracker and a touch of pine at the end. Bitter, light bodied and moderate carbonation. Makes for a tasty IPA. One of the better beers I have had from Maine. I will get this again.

Bottled 01/03/17, so about 3 weeks old.

Golden straw color with a huge fluffy white head. Plenty of the usual suspects in the nose and flavor. Lots of delicious fruit, pine, and grassy/barny character. A bit of booze, which is surprising. A great beer but feels and tastes more like a Pale Ale. Nice finish and smooth as anything, but a bit disappointing/underwhelming. Hadn't tried a Maine Beer brew in a while because of the price and I think I'll take another break from them. $7 for this pint-sized bottle and I still don't understand how their prices haven't come down with the vast increase in their scale. Obnoxious, really.

one common trend i'm finding w/ all of Maine's beers is that they must be had on tap! i find a complete night and day difference in taste between their beers coming out of the bottle vs when having on tap. this one is no exception to the finding and IS a world-class ipa. only when it's on tap though.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle dated 9/20/16 into a tulip glass.

Once the condensation leaves, it is a mostly clear, pale/dull yellow-gold. It has a fairly thick bright white soapy head. Pretty good retention with some lacing.

Smells like cat piss, grapefruit, green lemongrass, orange, and mango with some very light grains.

There are some spicy hops up front that transition into mandarin orange/tangerine, pineapple, pithy grapefruit, earthy/musty mango, papaya, and apricot, very green leafy and piney hops, and a bit of pink bubble gum flavor. The malts are very light, like oyster crackers or croutons. Everything is very crisp and clean and really doesn't leave much of a lingering taste outside of some pineapple and grapefruit.

Outside of being a bit drying/cotton mouth feeling, the body is outstanding. Light and fluffy, dance on your tongue kind of feel

An outstanding IPA. Probably one of my top 3 Maine brews.

Pours golden with white head. It's as advertised, dry and bitter, but super clean. It doesn't have too much sweetness like some West Coast or Midwest IPAs and it's not overly bitter. It has nice balance. Another One is incredibly refreshing and to me, this is the best IPA in the MBC lineup.

Had this one on tap at the taproom.

A: Pours a hazy, yellowish-orange to golden color. Short, foamy, white head with minimal retention. Thick white lacing throughout.

S: Citrus and tropical fruit notes accompanied by earthy and piney hop undertones. Milder floral notes as well.

T: Strong citrus notes of grapefruit, lemon, and orange rind accompanied by piney hop bitterness. Milder notes of tropical fruits and melons.

F: Light bodied, smooth, and crisp with good carbonation. Slightly dry.

O: Overall, a great IPA. Love the citrus and hop bitterness on this one, which are perfectly balanced with the mild tropical fruit notes. Light and very drinkable for 7% ABV.

Poured out of a bottle into a speiglau IPA glass.

Look is slightly hazy and yellow with a big frothy head.

Lots of citrus on the aroma a little biscuit malt.

Taste is nice and balanced between the sweet biscuit malt and hops.

Excellent IPA.

Yet again another fantastic beer from MBC. Someone recently described it as easy drinking like MO, but with the hop profile of dinner. I wouldn't go that far, but it is close. It appears lemony with ample white foam. It smells of a fresh flower bouquet and the taste is similar with some tropical fruit. The mouthfeel is smooth with some hoppy bitter bite. Overall, this is just fantastic and I wish I had more.

This is a wonderful lighter IPA. It is smooth, more fruity than flowery. The hops are there, but not overpowering. It comes across as a session, but the ABV says otherwise... :)

Look: hazy, pale/straw.
Smell: Juicy tropical fruits, pineapple, mango, lemon. Pours with a large white head, falls away quickly.
Taste: Juicy, but retains a light pine.
Feel: silky, with a little resinous/astringent character. Finishes smoothly. Light mouthfeel, which I think is advantageous for this style.
O: Really enjoy this beer. Poured into oversized snifter, 7 day old bottle down here in SC. Pretty awesome. Meets my desire for a juice bomb, but keeps a nice bite/pine character. Silky feel, wonderful nose. Huge fan of this light bodied, hop forward IPA.

Bottled 7/12, poured into nonic pint. Super cloudy gold yellow, very foamy and very active with milkshake style lacing. Lemonish hoppiness scents. Hoppy and citrusy taste with slight malt notes and a very mild bitter tang in the back. Nice refreshing feel. Great beer.

Tons of tropical fruits and grass on the nose; mostly papaya. Taste is a mix of citrus and pine with some floral notes; there is a little bit of the tropical character you get on the nose but not much. Quite dry and very bitter finish. Medium body with great carbonation. Overall, very good if you like bitter beers; drinks like an old school east-coast IPA with a fruity twist.

22 oz bottle. Pours golden with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head, nice lacing and lively carbonation. Aroma is of citrusy hops, tropical fruit and bready malt. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Citrusy hops, bready malt and ripe fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long, dry. Another great brew from MB.

My favorite Maine Beer offering (I've yet to try Dinner). Pours a beautiful golden/yellow color. Smell is intense pine. Great balance between pine, citrus and bitterness on the palate. Love it.

For as hoppy as this beer is, it lacks the punch it should have. The smell is light and it tastes the same, but at 7%abv it shouldn't taste this way. It just lacks body, doesn't taste like a fully developed beer. It's good, don't get me wrong, but it tastes like a session or pale ale. I expected a lot more from another one
