An American ale that reserves its right to be different. A bit lighter in body, Old Court provides a citrusy hop aroma and caramel finish. 16 Mile names this ale for Sussex County’s original courthouse, which has been serving judicial needs since 1791. Today it stands on South Bedford Street just south of The Circle in historic Georgetown, Delaware.

Pours beautiful opaque dark copper brown with light quick fading khaki foam. Mild on the nose with old wood malty backbone flavor. Subtle “citrusy hop aroma and caramel finish”.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; no production information.
A: Pours an opaque, medium brown color with a one quarter inch, light tan head, low retention, and limited lacing.
S: Aromas of cocoa, caramel, and toast.
T: Flavor a melange of caramel/molasses, toffee, and plum. Maybe a little buttery. Moderate bitterness; very peppery.
M: Light to medium bodied with low carbonation. A bit watery.
O: Drinkable and enjoyable enough.

Appearance – Half finger head on an orange-brown clear body.
Aroma – Berries, caramel, a little buttery. Mostly caramel though.
Taste – Caramel, toffee, light hoppiness, and a little diacetyl but not out of place.
Mouthfeel – Nice easy drinking, goes down smooth.
Overall – A good beer, not spectacular but full-flavored and well rounded.
Please note that I am grading this beer TO THE STYLE. I have graded some very good IPAs with lower grades because I felt that they were not as close to the ideal of the style as they could have been. But as a pale ale this one was very good indeed.
