Had this on my radar, and it was near to where i was working. Pretty impressive list with a huge nod to Utah brewers. Taps were still all 4 % per Utah law, but plenty of bottles were available. Prices a little on the high side. Google said it had "Haute pub grub", but I was less than impressed withe food. Beer, yes. Food, not so much....

Beerhive Pub is located in Downtown Salt Lake City on Main Street. There is a light rail line right in front for convenient transportation if you don't drive.

Upon entering, there's definitely a pub vibe. There were memorabilia on the wall, some games playing on large screens. They had a long bar with plenty of seating along with tables. Utah has an unique alcohol law in which beers from taps can't exceed 4%. I forgot about this when ordering beer from their menu which was quite extensive. I ordered a local Utah beer and was surprised when it came in a bottle with a glass (stout). Then I remembered their law, so I thought okay this makes sense. Beerhive did have a sliver of ice strip where you could place your glass and bottle to keep cold, so that was a plus.

Interesting place and city. I enjoyed my visit. Will return next time I'm in SLC.

This is my favorite place to grab a beer in downtown SLC good vibe and a huge beer selection. Pretty friendly staff for the most part. Enjoyed chatting beer with one of the bartenders last time I was there. Food okay, I believe it's made at a restaurant next to the Beerhive.

Can't punish the bar due to Utah restrictions. Actually more interesting to compare beers when all sre 4%. Bar is all about the beer, but the bar food is also excellent. Bartender on a quiet Sunday afternoon is very knowledgeable.

Of all the places in Utah, this is the best place to go to for a beer. There is also the Beer Bar and the Bayou, but the Beerhive wins. I find their beer selection better and a little cheaper than the latter two. This place has a very nice bar atmosphere while the other two seems to be trying too hard to be 'different.' When you're in SLC, stop here.

Great place. Awesome selection. Horrible service from the guy working while I was there. He seemed more focused on a small group of ladies than the rest of the entire bar. A young lady replaced him after I cashed out and asked my friend and I twice if we needed anything in the short time she was there. I will have to return and try this place again when the first bartender is not working.

A true diamond in the rough. I found 3 of the top 100 bottle in stock. I'll save the mystery of what they had. My only regret is I didn't find this place soon enough to try all of them. Service was on point and really knew their beers. I hope to travel here again.

Absolute must visit place. I came during the NCAA tourney and Utah was on. Place is just a celebration of local craft. Easily a dozen taps of 3.2oz beer and an impressive bottle selection. They have Abyss bottles! I went with Epic Big Bad Buddhist and was not disappointed. Food options are pub fare but pricing is extremely fair.

By far a highlight of my trip and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Spent a few hours here one night while visiting SLC. Taps were all locals and of course 3.2% ABW/4.0% ABV. I had a few pints from the draft of random Utah breweries I had never heard of; they certainly represent the locals/Utah breweries in the draft selection which is something I like to see anywhere. The bar itself had an ice top which I had never seen before and thought was pretty interesting. The guy working the door was actually from the town where I lived during college. We had a short but nice conversation and overall the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable about the products they served. I think it was supposed to keep your drink cold but more likely it is just for show; pretty cool nonetheless. Fairly beer oriented here and the bottle list shows that. They had Black Butte XXI on bottle special for just over $20 which was rather awesome to me. Bottle markups where I come from are usually 75%-100% especially on one-offs. In a strange land for beer this place seemed like a great place for any craft beer enthusiast to stop.

I spent 10 days backpacking all over Utah and this was by far the best beer bar I encountered. It's also open on Sunday which is a rarity in downtown SLC.

They have a thin strip of frost along the bar to rest your beer one which is neat although gimmicky and it sounds like a nuisance to defrost and clean every night. It's a big place and I never had trouble finding an open stool.

The first time a I went I met a 1968 Vietnam vet who had chosen that day to jump off the wagon and tell me about diesel mechanics, bar fighting and his general worldview before picking up his empty laptop bag ("so no one figures me out") and moving on. He also bought me lunch and a beer. The second time I watched the Carolina Pittsburgh game while awaiting my flight and met a father and son from Russia. It's a diverse group of patrons.

The music was nice but unfocused. As soon as I got grooving' to mellow jazz Black Sabbath would roar in. I'd be feellin' Iommi's riffs then a funk band would come on. It was all good but jarring. I'm a music snob though.

All pints are $4 and I believe the majority of the tap list is all local UT 4% brews - 15 or so in all. If you want "heavy" beer they have a very large bottle list. Personally I'm a lightweight so I enjoy having a plethora of low abv beers to choose from. I ate a burger and it was fine.

The beerhive is a great little spot. I heard of this place a few times before I went there. I was glad I did.

The bar is deceptively larger than it looks. Inside is plenty of room, with a down stairs with pool tables. The atmosphere is laid back and chill.

The quality of beer and selection is quite good. They had several beer that I've wanted to try and not that big of a price gouge either. I had a 2012 Abyss for $20, which considering I was drinking it in a bar, I felt reasonable. They have a huge menu of beers and a bit of everything.

Our server was very good and was good at offering advice of selection. She kept up with water and beer.

Overall, great place worth checking out if you are in SLC!

Never have I felt compelled to write a review but after visiting SLC and experiencing their lack of good beer, I figure this place needed to be shared.

Small patio, long bar, dark inside but staffed well. Most of the length of the bar has about a five inch wide ice lane for resting beer bottles on (to help keep them cool in the warmer months). I had never seen this before and thought it was VERY "cool."

Awesome selection of bottled beers and the decent SLC selection of draft brew available in the state but a nice variety from places like Zion, Moab, Uinta, Squatters and so on (about 15-16 taps and easily 80+ bottles). I had a bottle of 09 Mirror Mirror from Deschutes and one I've been wanting to try for a while (even with known and acknowledged Brett infection). They had many great Barleywines and Stouts from all over the country and was very happy to see a bar for someone like me in a city not quite for me.

Mark-ups on bottles were about what you'd expect for a bar that's been hanging on to brews for 4+ years.

If you're downtown in SLC, stop in!

Walking in, they were playing Led Zeppelin and had NFL on the TV, which made a great first impression. The decor is awesome and the TV's are in prefect position behind the bar to watch from any seat. The bottled beer menu isn't Bayou huge, but that they may be a good thing. The wife and I both got beer we never had before. The cheese fries were decent, not great. That's all we got for food. Live the three pool tables and the foosball table downstairs, unfortunately the TV down there wasn't working. The waitress was great when she came to us, but didn't check on us for a while after our first beers were empty. Overall though, I think I found a new favorite spot.

I like Beerhive. The decor and atmosphere is nice and clean. Almost all of the taps are Utah brewed beers, which works for me. Beyond that, the bottle list is quite extensive, but not bringing as much as The Bayou. Which doesn't really make a difference to me as there are so many things to try. I was surprised at how good my pizza was. Most bars or brewpubs seem to have a standard kind of pizza, but this was well beyond that. The guy visiting from Philly next to me also thought the pizza was really good, and he was as surprised as I was. (The food actually comes from Michaelangelo's next door.) Service is relaxed here, but generally not inattentive. This is a go-to spot in SLC, especially considering it's location in the downtown area.

While taking a lift from my friend Huber, it was quite a journey to find this place and he was from SLC! Due to the one way streets and vast construction areas, we ended up having to go down a WRONG WAY street and then immediately turn right onto Main Street. Eventful night. Finally finding it because of the Craft Neon Beer Signs outside, he dropped me off and I proceeded into this "well known" beer bar in town.

Walking straight in through the big red doors, I was witnessing a deja vu of beer bars in Columbia, MO. People doing shots all down the bar. Fun atmosphere and party people! I decided to take a seat at the other end of the bar and collect my thoughts on what to order. The music was all different genres from reggae/hip hop/alternative. Great mix!

The beer menu was very informative by style, ABV, and price. Very neat and they had everything in stock. Both bartenders informed me that they cellar and age most of their brews. I then went straight for a Mirror Mirror Vintage! Couldn't resist.

Both bartenders working that night were very cool and we all shared thoughts/opinions on different sought after beers and which ones aged better then others. Quite the staff for a beer bar!

Their selection was outstanding too. Not as many brews as other beer bars (right under 200), it was filled with nothing but limited/rare beers that make you "any mini miny moe". I chose a "night cap" sort of beer (Mirror Mirror) and enjoyed for a while.

I never saw any menu for food but as I made it in this place at 11pm, their kitchen must have closed already. Next time!

I suggest stopping in here first (if your looking to enjoy GREAT beer and receive AWESOME service). They make your experience worth the trip. Will be back next time I'm in SLC. Thanks BeerHive Staff!

We had a small group of us and we shared some excellent beers such as an Imperial Stout anniversary beer from Sierra Nevada that I had never seen before.

The food we ordered took way too long and definitely wasn't worth the wait, we were hungry and didn't finish half of it. The server told us the reason it took so long is they were having problems with the kitchen next door, half our group were done with their food before we even got ours. Eat before you go there, they were helpful with the beer choices, so I would go back to try some other interesting beers.

This was my first visit to SLC and I had heard tales of the citiy being a beer waste land. After a nice dinner up the street i found the BeerHive in the center of town.
The bar had a small crowd, very nice atmosphere with a long bar with an ice tray to keep your beer cold. There was a nice selection of beer on tap and a four page beer menu with a nice selection of bottled beer. The range of prices went from $4 to $28. I was surprised with the number of 22oz bottle selections.
The two bartenders were vert friendly, talkative, provided excellent service and had very good beer knowledge.
I did not try the food, however, a few people that were eating seamed satisfied with their food.
Everyone in the bar seemed to be having a good time. This was a nice bar and recommend it to anyone visiting SLC.

Near the conference center, so you'd think it might be a great place to get a quick bite to eat and a brew while taking a break from the conference crowds. However, my advice is to NOT do it. Food was terrible and no one I ate with thought it was even average.

regarding beer, the selection is good for SLC but average for anywhere else. It has an almost nonoverlapping subset of perhaps half of the beers that the Bayou has which my guess is because they share a distributor.

The upshot: Walk a few extra blocks to the Bayou which is MUCH better for both beer and food.

Being long-time employed in downtown Salt Lake City and occasionally wanting a great beer within reasonable walking distance for lunch or after work, it was beyond refreshing when The Beerhive opened up in August 2009 along Main Street near 100 South right in the heart of Mormondom.

My first visit to this craft beer bar was the day after it officially opened, when the beer and food menus were not yet proper (needed quick runs to nearby Kinko's). But what lacked in cosmetic prep made up for in beer selection and friendly ambiance with competent bartenders and servers. And the place is gorgeous inside and out, to boot.

What you might notice initially in this brick-exposed, high-ceiling contemporary dig is the massive dark woodwork that comprise the bar and back bar. To me, the beautifully crafted wood and giant mirror at center of the back bar give the place an Old West saloon feel, complete with myriad whiskey bottles and other hard spirits nearby. The two plasma screens blasting sports programming on either ends of the bar and unique "ice rail" that runs the full length of the "L"-shape bring you back to this century. Ostensibly, the perpetual ice rail keeps your pour cold and tasty while you take your time enjoying your beverage. It's a nice addition to the bar and likely the only one in the Beehive state.

The prices are reasonable to expensive, depending, of course, on your taste in beverage. Is this different everywhere else? No. If you want to spend $25 on some barley wine, go for it. The pint drafts are $4. Yes, you can get a majority of these brews at the local liquor store for obviously cheaper prices, but then where's the fun in that? The place has room for a good-sized crowd, with high tables, regular tables, booths and even seating outside for the smokers/al fresco fans in the group.

I've been back to The Beerhive about two dozen times since that first visit; on weekends when it's packed, to weekdays where there's only three other people in the bar. Not once have I been met by staff with less than a friendly smile and hello, and sound suggestions on new seasonals or arrivals. Or good alternatives when your first choice isn't always available. Yeah, that happens. Get over it already.

I was initially worried the place might turn into an uber-trendy frat-boy gathering hole, but I've been pleasantly surprised that a good mix of people and ages patronize the place. It is ideal for a quick wind down before heading home after work, a nice meet-and-greet with colleagues or when you just want to have a liquid night out with your favorite someone. Parking can be limited, but if you complain about having to walk more than two blocks because of parking, well ...

I highly recommend the following: Full Sail Grandsun of Spot IPA (22 oz. $8, reserve); Deschutes Mirror Pond ($5); Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA (22 oz. $8); Big Sky Moose Drool ($5); Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar (22 oz. $11); Wasatch Winterfest ($5, local seasonal); Desert Edge Latter Day Stout ($4) and Roosters ESB ($4, local seasonal) draft.

Not finding much negative here, it is all about the beer and they have a great selection representing most styles. Some reports indicate there are 150 plus different labels, including two dozen tap selections. I've observed great Belgians (Duvel, Chimay, Lindemans); classics you'd expect (Samuel Smith, Spaten, Lev); a ton of regional crafts (Deschutes, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, Anderson Valley, Pyramid); and last but not least, the local fare (Squatters, Uinta, Wasatch, Four+, Roosters, Desert Edge, Red Rock).

I'm holding out hope they bring in Stone or Redhook options. That would be the icing on the proverbial cake for me.

P.S. If you need food, you can order from next door at the adjacent Vienna Bistro. I've never sampled, but there are always people eating at the bar. There are also pool tables downstairs with more places to sit and relax while imbibing.

Factoid: The Beerhive's Del Vance was co-founder of Utah's Uinta Brewery as well as co-founder of The Bayou in Salt Lake City, a most excellent restaurant/beer bar, dubbed "Beervana."

Located on West side of Main Street between the Edinburgh Castle and the Vienna Bistro. This narrow bar has one of the best selections of craft beer in the entire state of Utah, with a long taplist that contains several special release seasonal beers and a great bottle selection as well. Remember, you do not need to be a member now in Utah to come into a place like this and order a bottle of high ABV craft beer.

Bar has a long ice top that keeps your beer cold while enjoying the game on one of the TV's, or relaxing with friends. Lower level contains two pool tables, and food is available as well - it's the Vienna restaurant menu that is connected to this bar.

Prices are reasonable overall, but they have some anomalies on the menu. While draft prices are fine, and $5-ish may be fine for Hop Rising, the $12 for Red Chair IPA is absurd, and I doubt they'll sell many of those $20-25 large sized bottles. Service was decent but it was during the day with fewer than 5 patrons, and I've heard it can be subpar when things are busy on a Friday night.
