Opened this beer from a bottle with best by date of 6.06.18. Poured into snifter to review and enjoy. Massive foamy off white head that lasts quite a long time. Cloudy copper amber in color.

Smells of plum, pear, banana and spicy, peppery phenols. Some underlying caramel notes with some noble hops. Alcohol warmth is virtually nonexistent.

Tastes sweet upfront with caramelized brown sugar that leads to lingering bitterness. Dark fruit flavors like fig, dark plum, grapes, dark cherries. Really fruity and complex. Alcohol notes are held well in check with no hot or solvent notes.

Feels medium to full bodied but finishes very dry due to the lingering bitterness & high carbonation. Prickly finish.

A very nicely done beer. Holds up well to some aging. Would definitely look for this one again. I prefer this one much more over Rochefort 6.

Alcohol and yeast immediately became present, and once in the glass, the initial notes of raisin and dark fruits and became very evident. Yeasty tones of oak, followed up by sweet raisin come through. There is no hop presence in bittering, aroma or flavor, which is expected with this style. The mouthfeel of this beer is amazing. The dense foam gives way to a pleasant and natural feeling carbonation that is deliciously creamy.

Pours a deep red-brown with suspended yeast. Thick, and full, but the alcohol content is noticeable in the form of a sharp edge. Tastes sweet and and a bit peppery/woody.

L — Pours a very dark, filtered reddish amber with a two-finger off-white head produced with moderately gentle pour. Head is rocky and fizzy, dissipating quickly and leaving minimal lacing
S — Smoke, caramel, toffee, molasses, bourbon, vanilla, and a touch of banana-yeasty-fruitiness
T — Primarily sweet notes of molasses, caramel, and vanilla soda alongside roasty malts and smoke. A hint of berry, banana, and red wine
F — Tongue-tickling mouthfeel. Noticeably less velvety than Rochefort 10. Mildly astringent finish
O — It’s difficult to review without the shadow of Rochefort 10 looming over this one. While Rochefort 8 is an enjoyable brew, it doesn’t wow me like its older brother. Good to try at least once to gain familiarity with the canonical Belgians. Tastier with the yeast mixed in
