The usual look of dark caramel with a solid quilt of creamy tan foam. Smells of co2, buttered graham crackers, some bits of resin and almost mint, some grass and nuts as it warms. Flavor is malty, some nice nougat and sweet notes. There's still a bit of the resiny, almost skunky character that is a little overpowering. Honestly the beer seems a little medicinal at this point. Medium bodied with moderate carb and an off dry finish. Having had this beer multiple times, and at different ages, it appears I most like this one around the two year mark. Considering buying a couple bottles to test this theory....

Pours toasted caramel with plenty of light toasted cream foam (I spent a few minutes just killing foam so I could get beer). Smells of co2, light toasted nuts, some yeast and a little bit of malt - but really not appealing this fresh at all.... Taste is sweet with banana, alcohol, some sugar, some hints of toasted malts; again, really surprised how little I respect this today. Feels really thin and lacks the body I'd expect from the beer, the carb is hi initially, but I've mechanically removed much of it. Really disappointed in this right now. Maybe too young...

A: Pours a dark mahogany ale, murky (due to yeast). Three finger head of light latte falls to sheet of the same. Good, coarse lacing. S: Malt, Brown sugar, raisins, dark fruits, figs, molasses. Dark, intriguing. Very nice and complex. Malts are excellent here.T: Above, then add graham and beautiful, bready yeast into the mix. Outstanding flavor. M: Full body and high carbonation. Wish the carb was a little high on this one. Too bad. O: Absolutely gorgeous beer. No question Rochefort is among the top five Trappist breweries.

330 ml bottle

A: Pours a dark amber with three fingers of fluffy, tanned head that recedes to a half inch with plenty of lacing.

S: Sweet, boozy, and fruity. A nose of ripe banana and fig with blended perfectly with alcohol and some spice.

T: Sugary malts blend incredibly well with the fruitiness. A smooth, long lasting, and slightly dry yeast finish.

M: Creamy, thick, silky smooth goodness!

O- Outstanding! On my way to my local LCBO to clear the shelves while I can.

Poured down the center of a Left Hand balloon glass from a 12oz bottle.

Appearance: A thick, dark amber pour settles with three fingers of light khaki head. The head slowly recedes to as little as half a finger and there's some lacing if you tilt the glass. I forgot to check for yeast in the bottle so there's quite a fair amount of dark yeast in the glass.

Smell: Fresh bread, earthy malts, ripe fruits (cherries, figs), candied sugar, and alcohol.

Taste: Plenty of earthy malts, some candied dark fruits, molasses, and some heat from the alcohol. Honestly, this is a very complex brew and it might be a little too much for my modest palate. Either way, it's very tasty.

Mouth: A thick body with moderate carbonation. Combined with the high ABV and the complexity of the flavors, this is definitely a beer you want to sip.

A very complex yet tasty brew. I bought several with the intent of aging them, and I recommend that you buy two or three and do the same.

Pours a solid reddish brown, with a huge white foamy head.

The smell is very yeasty and earthy, sweet and malty and some alcohol.

The taste is dark fruits, dark malts, slightly sweet and quite a bit of alcohol. You definately have to drink this at 50F or more to get all the flavours.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Overall a very tasty beer, you can taste the alcohol but this works. This is definately a sipper, so take it slow and the flavours really become more complex as the beer warms.
