A truly magical brew. It pours as a rich mahogany with a big stable parchment coloured head. The aroma is surprisingly light. Yeast, alcohol (you wonder if it is going to overwhelm. It doesn't. Then deeper in there is rum, coriander, plums. The taste opens from the rum to a rich toffee flavour with some nutty breads (crust) flavours. This beer is huge in the mouth without being overwhelming. Rich but still comfortable. Ideal for a celebratory occasion, a Christmas beer, or just any time you need to know all is well with your world.

Pours a murky raisin-color with a huge tan head. Nose holds coriander, yeast, rum, dried fruits, cloves, a bit of brown sugar. Smells like a fruitcake, in the best way possible. Taste is bready and sweet. Cloves, wood, molasses, cherries, rum, figs. Some alcohol warmth with a depth of flavor and a malty richness that is just exquisite. Highly carbonated. An incredible beer.

Bottled and possibly bottle conditioned
Pours a dark brown sugar body with massively foaming tobacco stained head that pretty much sticks around
Dry sherry and Christmas cake aroma
Nice rich rye and fruit flavour

11.2 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. $8.

L: Medium brown and hazy verging on opaque. Huge, creamy, light-tan head that dissipated quickly and left no lacing.

S: Complex, malty-sweet and vaguely sour aroma with dried fruits, vanilla, and a hint of alcohol.

T: Very nice balance between the bready malts, the hop bitterness and the alcohol. Strong fruity esters, particularly cherries, as well as raisins and a touch of banana. The aftertaste is also complex and a little spicy with a moderate lingering bitterness.

F: Moderately carbonated, with a medium body and a marvelously soft alcohol warmth.

O: The apearance is a little off-putting, but overall, this is an outstanding sipping beer.

Poured from 330 ml bottle into a Schlafly tulip. Pours thick opaque brown with a huge puffy tan head. Head doesn't last long and leaves very little lace, and once settled looks almost like a cola. Great smell of dark fruits, banana and a little alcohol. Fairly carbonated (fizzed when I popped the cap) and so smooth. One of the best Belgian dark ales I've had. I like the 10 a little better, but this is very good.
