(11.2 oz bottle, L.11.02.2020... decanted into a teku)

L: dark amber liquid, clear, jewel-like glow... tight, sudsy, aged-white foam - builds up with a wavy surface contour, then collapses to a fuzzy cap that holds in the form of a dense, silky collar... looks nice

S: notes of apple brandy, light caramel, hint of tobacco... the fruity notes are most forward, very little alcohol presence at first, but later it grows, and an almost whiskey-like aroma emerges... overall, dense yet mellow-moderate aromas, but nothing all that distinct

T: dry, mildly vinous flavor up front, immediately followed by a dry, lightly toasty malt, with perhaps some dried golden raisin and/or raspberry in the finish... emphasis on the dryness, not very much sweetness not overtly 'sugary' notes... like the smell, vaguely dense flavors, but devoid of depth or distinctive character... the addition of the dregs doesn't add anything positive - muddy, mineral, peppery-bitter

F: light-medium bodied, leaning toward light and sharp... the later of the addition of the dregs adds a delicate sludgy viscosity, slippery-foamy finish... very mellow, but pleasant warmth

O: time and time again - probably lazy storage? - but the few Rochefort bottles I've bought in the past 5 years all seem a bit too dry and sharp, peppery and dull

Poured from 12oz into Stone Brewing Goblet. Freshness date of October 27th 2017.

L: Gorgeous amber color, finger and a half off-white head has very good retention.

S: Rich dark fruit estery aroma with some brown sugar, some spices maybe clove, bready yeast.

T: Again rich dark fruit with some brown sugary esters and toasted bread. Some yeast as well. Clove for sure. Complex and flavorful.

F: Medium-Full, Belgian carbonation, dry.

O: Yet another Trappist beer that is marvelous.

She pours a ruddy brown and leaves the same colored body with some light somewhat clear edges. Small white head that dies within a minute with no lacing. The smell starts off with some that "iced apples" aroma I usually get in tripels, but then starts to stray from that smell to a roasty almost smoky sort apple aroma. A decent spiciness comes into assist in amplifying its complexity. The taste is sweet and spicy through the apples which have more of a roasty and smoky sort of flavoring; dry sweet spicy aftertaste and finish. On the palate, she sits about a medium on the body with a decent carbonation seeking to not hinder any quality of sessionability. In other words, this is definitely one of the better drinkers than sippers the rest of Trappistes does. Overall, I didn’t get as much Belgian yeastiness in the smell. I like this for the most part and also like the fact that this isn’t as boozy as the other ones I’ve had by Trappistes. A worthy dubbel I’ll buy again.

Amber in colour. Slight haze. Thick frothy head. Lots of effervescence.
Yeasty, spicy, fruity and slightly metallic.
Initial sweetness is dispelled by the toasted malt. There is alcohol burn to finish along with some bitterness. Fruits are maintained throughout.
Smooth and highly drinkable.

Poured from 330 ml bottle into a Schlafly tulip. Pours thick opaque light brown with a puffy tan head. Head doesn't last long and leaves very little lace, and once settled looks almost like a cola. Great smell of sweet dark fruits. Fairly carbonated with a medium feel. The best Dubbel I've had to date.

This beer poured a cola color with an off white (almost tan) head.

The aroma was heavy on the earthiness with a hint of citrus.

The initial taste is sweet and there is a hint of raisin. In the middle the beer turns a bit smokey. The finish turns a bit caramelish with some nice toasted hoppiness.

The mouthfeel is crisp up front, and the beer warms nicely on the tongue from start to finish.

This is a great dubbel, and another reason to love Trappists. The flavor is complex, but not so overdone that you cannot pick out what it is that I enjoy about the beer. This is a great one to sip and enjoy.

A great looking brew, bold head with a coppery and hazy body.

Aroma is quite appealing too, doesn't reflect the beer in my opinion, but plenty of fig, with a hint of spice.

Taste for me lets this beer down, although some will love this, I just have burnt toffee throttling all other flavours. The feel is compromised a touch due to that overbearing flavour which does linger well into the aftertaste.

Overall, this is one of those brews which is almost awesome, just a slightly more malty flavour and bingo it would be legendary, as it stands, a touch lacking.

Hazy dark copper with lasting cap of off-white foam, looks as good as I'm hoping. Aroma is malt-forward with just a hint of spice and Belgian yeast influence. Rich malty flavors of molasses bread and mellow sweetness of dark fruits that's just so another-level better than any of the best dubbels I've ever had. Silky smooth and no hint of booze, easily my favorite of the style.

One of the many "how the hell have I not reviewed this yet" beers I hope to finally write up in 2017. It's been a while since I've had a Rochefort, and I'm always so happy with how handsome and clean the bottle art looks.

A lovely dark pour, medium hazy with a wispy white head. I tend to be disappointed whenever a dubbel pours too pale, and I think that's because of this beer.

Smells yeastier and less alcoholic than lesser dubbels, with peat malt, barley sugar, esters of peach, light german hops, and some black pepper. A really wonderful aroma.

Tastes excellent: full and complex, yet still thirst-quenching, and with no signs whatsoever of its elevated ABV. The beer is distinguished by an earthen, almost ashen character, with fruit complexities developing after a few sips. It starts bitter and grows gradually sweet and clean, with a middle dominated by peaches and pears, and finish that is equal parts bitter and sugary.

Looks like a light root beer.

I've been cleaning the mold off my ceiling for the last two day with bleach so...okay, the it smells like coke...kind of...with a stronger scent of rum...kinda like a rum and coke?!

I just ate a bunch of pepperoni slices and olives prior to tasting it, but to me it taste like Cherry Coke's long lost cousin...you know, the one that had a drug problem and disappeared into the night to never be seen again.

Feels like a light wine spritzer, just more oaky and malty.

O-Well I've had the Rochefort 8 and 10 before, and tonight I bought all three and started with this one as it is the "lighter" one. I absolutely love the 10 — favorite of all beers. But this 6 is like a nice appetizer for the main course if you know what I mean. I drink beer to get a buzz. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the subtleties, I do. But I like something with a kick. And this dubel is definitely something I could enjoy with friends sitting by the lake on a hot summer day judging a wet t-shirt contest ;)
