12oz bottle. No code date. Appearance: deep golden orange, mostly clear with a very thin off white head. Almost pours still Aroma: Caramel malt, and only a very light herbal and pine hop notes. Taste: Caramel malt with some toast, a bit of oxidation, and a sharp bitterness with only a faint touch of citrus rind Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a very light carbonation Finish: Astringent bitterness lingers with a touch of Toasted malt Overall: Unimpressive take on an American Pale Ale. Strong malt character and lack of hop flavor and aroma makes it seem more like an English pale ale. Really low carbonation, and a nonexistent hop character outside of straight bitterness

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Fat Head's pint glass.

A: Dark gold but fairly clear. Good amount of visible carbonation and a thin off-white head that fades quickly. Certainly darker than expected for an APA – more like an Oktoberfest.

S: Resin and grassy hops under toasted malts with a good bit of toffee sweetness. Again, reminiscent of an Oktoberfest.

T: Mild grassy and resin hops, more toasted malts again with more toffee and light bits of caramel. Light grassy hop bitterness with fading malt sweetness in the hang.

M: Medium-bodied overall, but a heavy body for the listed style. Low alcohol presence, and carbonation sensation a bit on the low side for style.

O: If you told me this was a Marzen or an Oktoberfest, I would say it was passable. As an APA, it’s an absolute abject failure. It’s nearly balanced (but a bit heavier on the malt) with minimal dry hopping, or hop flavors or aromas. Really would recommend avoiding if you’re looking for an APA. Scores given are to style. My guess would be a rating of 3.0/5 overall.

Poured from a bottle to a plastic cup at a AA baseball game. Amber color with a fingernail head that slowly recedes and doesn't leave lacing (due to the plastic up). Odd nose of metal and bitter hops. Taste is a surprisingly malty body with a twinge of bitterness and an earthy finish. Medium-light body and medium carbonation with a slight note of booze as it warms. It actually hides the ABV decently.
I primarily got the beer since I don't really see any of Hanson's beers normally. It's name is gimmicky and cringe-worthy, but effectively grabs attention. It was drinkable but under-hopped for an APA. It's fine for a non-macro ball park beer, but I'm probably not getting it again.
Update: The only rating that changed is look and smell so here is the updated look/smell section: On tap and poured into a pint glass. Pours light copper with a short head that leaves two inches of lacing at the top of the glass. Metallic and sweet malt nose with no trace of hops.

A: This poured a hazy dark gold with moderate off white head.
S: It smelled like sweet bready malt, with a hint of copper hops.
T: It tasted like sweet bready malt, with a hint of copper hops. It had a dirty aftertaste.
M: It was watery with a bit of carbonation. Thin body.
D: This was not a very good beer, even for a mail order pale ale. Everything about it was wrong. Poorly done, Hanson. Nearly a drain pour.

I was curious enough about this to try it, as I've heard for a long time now that the Hanson brothers are craft beer fans even before they developed their own beer. Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a clear amber/copper color with lots of streams of little bubbles continuously rising to the beer's surface. A fizzy white head that's about an inch thick when first poured before quickly dissipating to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass along with some cluster spots of foam dotting the surface here and there. Aromas of beady, sweet caramel malts along with some spice notes and an astringent hop aroma and some earthy and spice notes too. The taste is pretty much the same, with some nice bready, caramel malty sweetness with hints of molasses that gives way to some earth and spice notes and some nut brown roastedness along with a subtle, slight astringent, pine and citrus hop presence. The hop presence is nicely refined here. Has a somewhat crisp, fairly smooth, slightly chewy and syrupy, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. A good beer all around.
