A: The beer is hazy reddish yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that quickly died down, leaving delicate lacing covering the surface and a thin ring around the edge of the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of Belgian yeast, pale malts and muscat grapes are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the muscat grapes are a little more prominent.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a nice balance with the wine grapes as they lend complexity to the taste and aren't too strong.

Pint on tap at Bubba's in Islip, N.Y.

Appearance: Pours a clear ruby color with very minimal head and almost no carbonation or lacing. Looks sort of wine- or grape juice-like. Pretty unique.

Aroma: This beer hits you pretty hard with grapes and booze. Smells like wine and malts. There's also some fruitiness and citrus-like notes.

Taste: Follows the nose, and the grapes really stand out. The vinous nature of this beer really dominates the flavors. It's really tasty - it's also boozier than I expected. There's some fruitiness and maltiness, but the grapes are really front and center. I had this with a kind of "meh" burrito; it deserved a more sophisticated meal pairing.

Mouthfeel: It's pleasant to drink. Somewhat wine-like but denser. Easy to drink for a relatively complex beer.

Overall: I dig this. Conceptually, it could have been a real disaster, but they pulled it off wonderfully. It's also cool to see a pair of North Fork companies pair up like this. This makes me want to try more Greenport stuff; the fact that they can do "weird" beer leaves me wondering how they do with traditional styles. I should add that I enjoyed this even though I'm not really a fan of wine at all.

On tap at Cooper's Chelsea, NYC. Also had some at the brewery along with numerous other tastes, days ago.

Appears to now have Chardonnay or similar white varietal as the grape element.

They've wisely un-retired this treat. Doesn't look like much at first. No head & a bit hazy, but once it's under the nose, you get a sense this could be something else again.

Not exactly sweet, but I found some peachy aroma & taste. I only mention these first , because they were the most surprising of the elements that comprise this really great summer to late summer beer.

Not sure how the grape factors in, whether it's from a shared barrel or directly proportioned for flavor, but however it's done, it works. And it works well.

Nice to taste it at the source & then again in the marketplace & will be looking forward to finding it on the shelves or taps at the local.

Highly recommended.
