A black ale that puts the flavor of the malt front and center. It has a mild hop character that balances strong notes of cocoa and hints of coffee. A full-bodied roasty treat that finishes dry. Pairs well with chocolate, BBQ, as well as fresh shellfish.

Dark brown colour with ruby highlights. Brown head, fine bubbles, high and persistent. Gently swirling.
The aroma is obviously roasted, dark cocoa malts, dark chocolate, earthy notes, slightly spicy, tobacco.
The flavour is generally dry with a hint of sour notes. The bitterness is roasted, earthy, grassy and spicy.
Medium carbonation. The texture is almost smooth. Medium body, not higher. The aftertaste is medium-long, dry, earthy and spicy.

Dark brown brew with a fairly sturdy tan head that leaves no lace. The nose is strongly coffee with a bit a smoke and roast. The flavor leans decidedly toward roasted malts with chocolate and coffee in support. Pretty straightforward porter with little nuance from sip to sip. But solid enough to revisit.

From a can. Pours a rich chocolate brown with a short cap of tan foam. The nose is coffee, chocolate, and roasty malts. The flavor is coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Medium-thin bodied with a mocha-esqe finish.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a fine, half finger khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with a touch of char, cocoa, coffee and a hint of vanilla. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, quality cocoa, licorice and a touch of vanilla; coffee and cocoa finish with a slight tartness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I very pleasant English style porter that verges on export stout territory. Nice cocoa and coffee character and the slightly charry malt is dry dry and authentic tasting. A small amount of tartness in the finish almost like a day old cup of coffee, but otherwise very well done and quite flavorful for the ABV. Better than I expected and enjoyable.

The pour is black as motor oil with a frothy tan colored head of foam. The taste is roasted char, dark chocolate, with a hint of molasses. Cheers! B

Served from the can in a Lgunitas mason jar.

Pours a deep hickory topped by a finger of tan foam. The nose comprises roast, sweet coffee (y'know the smell you get when you pass by the coffee store in the mall?), and a bit of cocoa powder. The taste brings in more of the same, the roast taking a dark turn, and a touch of anise poking its head in every now and again in a very busybody-like way. The body is a stolid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a relatively dry finish. A nice bit of roasty, robust porter.

Look: Extremely dark chocolate brown, almost black. One finger of foamy tan head with good retention.

Smell: Roast malt, slight sweet coffee note.

Taste: Sweet and roasted malt. Slight sourness. Very, very mild bitterness that immediately disappears.

Mouthfeel: Creamy with mild carbonation.

Overall: A decent but unspectacular porter.
