Formerly Citrus IPA
Pith n' Peel began back in early 2011 as a Project Hoppiness experiment. It’s bold plan was to forgo any bittering hops and attempt to approximate hop characteristics with the pith and flesh of citrus fruit. One taste and mad scientist laughter will ensue. Spring seasonal Citrus IPA close to a session IPA.

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) bottle into a square pint glass; no production info but just purchased locally to the brewery.
A: Pours a golden amber color with exuberant head formation leaving an inch and a half, chiffon yellow head with excellent retention and rings of lacing.
S: Aromas of grains and grasses with strong zesty lemon and pepper notes.
T: Definitely citrus and peppery flavors predominate over the light and caramel malts. Relatively light bitterness. Refreshingly little aftertaste.
M: Light bodied with strong, persistent carbonation.
O: This is a light, refreshing IPA, more on the “Mid-Atlantic” style, eg between English and East Coast. I am definitely perceiving that some East Coast craft brewers, among them Monument, Stoneface, and Maine Brewing are lightening up on the IBUs and it is a refreshing change (pun entirely intended).

The beer comes in pale gold color, crystal clear.
The aroma offers sweet candied citrus, pineapple dish candy, grainy sweetness.
The flavor follows with medium plus bitterness upfront, soapy and piney throughout. This is complemented by bitter grapefruit peel, pith, a biscuity sweetness, as the beer finishes with more dry pithy bitterness.

Pours a slightly hazy straw color with a short dense head, some soapy bubbles. Decent lacing on the glass.
The aroma is of citrus. Grapefruit and lemon. Not super strong but it's inviting and bright.
The taste is of grapefruit and lemon. Grapefruit rind provides bitterness. Noticeable soapy flavor. The malt is very light.
The feel is light and well carbonated. Bitter on the palate and quite dry.
Tastes much better poured into a glass. A summery IPA. A bit too dry.
