Reviewed from notes taken February 2015.
IPA. $7 per 12 oz pour on-draught at Blind Tiger Ale House in New York, NY.
HEAD: 1 finger's worth of head. White in colour. Soft looking.Boasts a nice even consistency. Above average creaminess. Thick and full. Nice complexion. Leaves thin lacing on the sides of the glass as it recedes. 5 minute head retention.
BODY: Clear translucent vibrant copper. Clean, lacking any visible yeast/lees.
Appears adequately carbonated. Not a unique or special appearance for an IPA, but certainly above average.
AROMA: Sharply fruity with a tropical edge. New world hops: mango, passionfruit, papaya, tangerine. Has a clean pale malt backbone. Floral hop aromatics.
Too clean to feature any overt yeasty notes aside from fruity ale yeast esters.
A pleasant aroma of moderate intensity. No overt alcohol or off-notes is/are detectable.
Suggests a balanced IPA with an inspired hop profile.
TASTE: Heavy on the fruit, though it steers too hard into candied sweetness and honey malt. Has a pale malt backbone for the most part, but there's something in there (either caramalt or crystal malt) lending too much sweetness or residual sugar. Maybe it's underattenuated?
Tropical hop profile includes plenty of new world hop-induced fruit: mango, papaya, passionfruit, tangerine, overripe citrus peel/rindy bitterness, melon. The bursts of fruit are aggressive - though not so much that they save the beer's balance.
Has a slightly spicy yeast presence. Higher attenuation is desired.
Above average depth of flavour. Average flavour duration and intensity.
I do like it, but it could use a more intricate flavour profile, a better balance (less sweetness, more hop pungency), and a more mellow presentation of flavour. Cohesive in build, but not a gestalt harmonious whole of a beer.
TEXTURE: Crisp, smooth, wet, a bit too full-bodied, a bit too thick, overcarbonated, and unrefreshing.
Complements the flavour profile decently at best, and fails to elevate the beer as a whole.
OVERALL: It has some almost vinegary leanings in the third act, as though it were meant to feature chile peppers or something. Overall, it's a drinkable middle-of-the-road IPA with an atypical hop profile and lackluster (im)balance. I wouldn't get it again, but it's passable fare.

Pours an amber color with one finger of off white head and moderate carbonation evident. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very bitter in the taste, some line and resin.
Overall bit s great IPA; just too bitter.

Had this Devil's Plaything tonight in NYC.
Looks great, unfiltered hazy. Smells good. Tastes a little flat, and so is the flavor. Although the taste does linger nicely.
I think I will have another one, because it's the only IPA in the house.

I second the note below I had this beer off a tap at a bar not a bottle I had in my basement yesterday.

There's a discrepancy: While BA shows this beer as "retired/no longer brewed", I just had tonight (or so the menu and waiter say) this beer. Actually the waiter said it was one they just got on tap. So my review for what I drank: a darn good draft.
