I swear I added and reviewed this place two years ago...Mind must be going.

Cabana room shares an affiliation with the infamous tax evaders who own Riley's, the Church Key, Samba, and Madison's Happiest Corner liquor store, etc... This is good since it ensures plenty of Central Waters tap lines. Unfortunately, I've never seen anything more interesting than Glacial Trails IPA featured on these tap lines but that is ok since there are more than 30 other beers to choose from. Selection is limited mostly to APAs, Ambers, Brown Ales, Lagers, and other styles that don't offend the masses. Breweries like Capital, New Glarus, Two Brothers, Ale Asylum, Leinenkugels, etc... are featured. You won't find anything to blow your mind but you'll certainly find something you like at a reasonable price. Food is bar fair with a Latin Twist. I've eaten there a half dozen times or so. On a two occasions I have really loved my entrées, on others I have been let down, and on one occasion I became violently ill after eating some bad black bean soup. Therefore, I really don't seek this place out. Service is average. The managing bartender knows his beer but the rest of the servers seem pretty clueless. This is not a beer destination but if you get dragged here, you'll find something to drink at a good price.

stopped into the Cabana Room for a late lunch on my last day on the isthmus

relatively quiet on this late Sunday afternoon, the interior is of modern decor with abstract art, accent lighting, various shades of wood, and an array of contrasting wall colors, doesn't particularly invoke Cuba in my mind - but that's an image of 50's streetcars, palm trees, and unassuming sidewalk cafes

the draft beer selection kept what seemed to be a focus on the midwest with a number of big-name nationals and internationals thrown in, the bottle list was unimpressive - mostly widely distributed imports, the full list is available on the restaurant website, as Sunday is $2.50 Wisconsin drafts, I stayed local and went with a Furthermore Proper served in a standard pint

my lamb and goat cheese sandwich wasn't quite phenomenal, but damn good - great bread and a well-thought combination of rich flavors, fries were pretty standard, the rest of the menu looked interesting enough to entice a return visit were I local to the place

the waitress wasn't in a particularly good mood, but people have bad days I suppose, she did however provide a level of service that was above acceptable

interesting to see the Cabana Room not listed...

i believe the ownership is consistent with Riley's, Samba, the Churchkey and whatever else they own.

Located spitting distance from state street and less than 2 blocks from Riley's, this faux-cuban joint sits underneath the impressive brazillian steakhouse Samba. There is an outdoor patio and a pretty low-key bar area.

There are 34 taps with an emphasis (about 30ish) on craft. Unfortunately, there isnt really any effort made to stay on top of new releases or more obscure beers and i dont think the listing really ever changes.

What you will find are 3 or so central waters beers (standard offerings only), some standards from capital, new glarus, furthermore, and lake louie, and a few from Bells.

The food is interesting - there are a few sandwiches that are really good (lamb and goat cheese, pork and chimichurri) and there are some other things (mostly burgers, sandwiches) that are intriguing.

Not a beer destination by any means, but a worthy lunch stop where you can easily find something tasty to drink.

2.50 wisconsin pints on sunday - nice
