Finally getting a chance to try this classic This beer pours clear gold with a large head. The aroma features a huge amount of clove, with apricot, banana, black pepper, and honey. The flavor is fruitier than the aroma, resplendent with apricot and banana, with an undercurrent of clove, nutmeg, dried lemon peel, and a dirty, dusky finish. The mouthfeel is fullish, with foamy carbonation, and a tea-like astringency. Overall I see why this is a classic - it is a gorgeous beer, and very moreish given the strength.

From notes taken 01/22/17:

On the back of the bottle it says best before 12/12/15. Okay, I should have had it sooner, but this is a 9.5% beer so I am not too terribly worried. I’ll review it aged for now, and if I think to, I’ll review it again fresh.

Honey amber, opaque and swirly with haze, but also a suspended matrix of semi-fine flecks. Bright off-white watery but rocky, and film-forming head of moderate retention. Lacing is thick and wide but sinks down quickly. Very sweet nose, a sweet white wine, light berries, some fresh-squeezed orange juice, esters and mild medicinal phenols, and a touch of vinegar, alcohol very much hidden, detectable with longer whiffs. As it sits, barely anything but caramel, soapy phenols, a drier white wine, a little yeast, and booze left to nose. And this more or less describes the palate as well, although caramel partly substituted with malt tartness, and the addition of brewing herbs or spices barely noticeable in the balance. Fairly yeasty and somewhat vinous aftertaste, though phenols and ethanol linger. I’d call it full-bodied but it is so creamy with abundant and fine tingly carbonation that everything else seems watery. Plenty of heat.

Very smooth , one of the best trappist ive had so far..

Like hazy golden color , 1 finger pure white head.

Smell is sweet and yeasty as with most of the belgian tripel.

Taste is sweetness followed by yeast and then a little funk on the end.

Feel is medium body with some heavy carbonation fizzy burn.

Overall a damn good beer and i will buy it again .

Poured from single-serve bottle

Look--Pours a classic hazy gold with excellent rocky head and persistent lacing throughout. As pretty a tripel as you will ever see.

Smell--Floral notes forward with dried fruit and apricot notes close behind, with classic Belgian yeast closing the deal. Excellent and inviting.

Taste--One notch below the aroma but still darn good. Excellent balance of malty sweetness, Belgian yeast, and a touch of bitterness at the end.

Feel--Outstanding carbonation and crispness makes this a very refreshing take.

Overall--Underrated versus the "big boys" of Belgium. Outstanding and highly recommended.

L: Hazy, honey-like color, three finger white head, thick lacing, good carbonation.

S: Raisins, oak, wine.

T: Champagne-like taste, malty.

F: Hugely carbonated, difficult to drink.

O: Quite average beer. Not bad but nothing special.

A dark gold with lots of sediment. Head is fizzy and disappears quickly. Smell is vibrant and fruity but slightly general and disappointing but overall favorable. Taste is as vibrant and fruity as the smell, but again, unfortunately, somewhat general and bland. Tastes possibly of banana. Mouth feel is a high point. Carbonation and vibrant once again, very refreshing and enjoyable. Overall, it's a very bright, fruity, and refreshing tripel, but not as distinct as I would like.
