Sampled on 7/6/2005 from a bottle dated best-before 6/2006.

Pours a well-carbonated clear mahogany with a thin off-white head. Leaves a small film and good lace considering the ABV. Smells sweetly malty. Raisins and bananas on a grainy and spicy base. A nice progression of flavors ride strong carbonation and a very crisp mouth-feel. Starts sweet and slightly sticky, with plenty of chocolate and raisins. Builds into a drier and more grainy middle. Notable spicy hops and alcohol in the finish; extremely dry and crisp. Much drier, more strongly hopped, and more quenching than I remember from previous samples.

Into a chalice.

A - Deep ruby brown with a massive tan head. Head contains gorgeous bubbles which leave good lacing after an above average retention.

S - Biscuits, dark fruits and a touch of chocolate and caramel.

T - Big bready malts give a base for this to work off of. Subtle and refined sweetness coats the palette through the swallow. Namely: cherries, caramel, raisins and grapes. Complex and enjoyable.

M - Fluffy medium body with average carbonation.

O - A nice dubbel that could be more bold. The biscuity base limits all that this beer can accomplish. Given this basis, they did a fantastic job.

Purchased at the LCBO for just over $3.00 for a 330ml bottle. Served at 6deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a nice high head that films out in a couple of minutes. Film lasts forever though! Very dark brown and unfiltered

S- Lots of fig and caramel notes.

T- Very good. Nice malt. No heat at all. fruity good with all the fig. Spicey with a blend of cinnamon and pepper. Almost like there is a hint of raisins in here.

M- Creamy good. Touch dry. No heat at all.

O- A great dubbel overall. Very enjoyable. Nearly as good as a Chimay. Will buy again.

Food Pairing

This wonderful little dubbel went well with..... Sloppy Joe's! Nice tomato based, ground beef goodness accentuated this wonderful Figgie beer

Enjoy

On par with the much praised Westvleteren. Aroma is full of dark fruits like cherry and date and spicy. A dark brown body supports a huge three finger thick Belgian beauty of a head. Has the taste of spiced bread pudding dipped in choclate liquor and the mouthfeel to match. Very tasty with a long lingering aftertaste.
