Stopped here for our first year anniversary. We did a beer and wine tour of Mission point and stopping here was a must. The atmosphere was amazing, tucked away facing the coast of one of Michigan's Great Lakes and surrounded by tall woods.

Inside was just rich with the Old World flair. Hearth stove, thick wooden beams and wrought iron. Gorgeous.

Quality of food was spectacular. There is definitely a push for local ingredients which is something I can always appreciate. We tried 2 pizzas: a wild mushroom and a spinach. For the price it was both delicious and filling, we were able to save the rest for later through our tours.

I also noticed it was very clean and I love it when you can actually view the open kitchen. Something like that just says "we've got nothing to hide".

The beer selection could be a little more, but pleased to see they had beers from both breweries available (Jolly and North Peak)

The service and staff was friendly and helpful.

Set in a lovely pastoral setting among some rather older pretty expensive-looking homes. The place itself looks a bit mansion-like, and we actually almost went right by it. At the entrance is an upscale bar area, with a rustic dining area off on the side. The bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable and happily offered sample tastes of their current brews on tap. After some small talk about the establishment, a manager came over, and to my utter, happy astonishment, offered a tour of the actual brewhouse and brewing equipment! He could not have been more polite or accomodating and related many interesting facts of their brewing process and also answered just about anything you wanted to know about Jolly Pumpkin. Needless to say I came away very impressed with both the opportunity and the hospitality I was given.
If you are ever in the Traverse City area, the Jolly Pumpkin in the Old Mission Peninsula is a must!
Many thanks to Gary and Jim behind the bar, and to Jim Demarsh for the tour and great hospitality!

Jolly Pumpkin Brewpub, Old Mission, Traverse City, Michigan-12/8/2009- Popped in to the Jolly Pumpkin Brewpub up on Old Mission while working in Traverse City for the week. This place really blew the other brewpubs in town away! Another perk were the big bombers of Jolly Pumpkin brews and 6ers of North Peak brews available for carry out at the bar!

Walked in to a relatively empty restaurant area and snagged a high top near the bar. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable on their beers. I purchased an 8 pack sampler with their Ginger, Siren Amber, Majestic Wheat, American ESB, Diabolical IPA, House Hard Cider, Noel de Calabazza, and one other I can't remember off the top of my head. ALL of the beers were delicious, rich, and not one was even close to disappointing!

I picked out the pulled pork nachos for dinner and they were outrageously good! HUGE portions and even the condiments for the nachos were amazing: locally grown cherry salsa and cilantro lime sour cream. I'm drooling just thinking about them! My buddy got a mushroom pizza and thought it was pretty tasty as well.

Because it was slow, we struck up a conversation with the bartender and after a few nerdy conversations about brewing he offered to show us their brewery! WOW. Sparkling copper kettles, a two story still, and an incredibly friendly brew staff (thanks for putting up with us after working such a long day!!)! Once their still is up and running, they plan on stocking their bar with nothing but their own beers and spirits (vodka, rum, whisky, cream liquor, etc...) and if their spirits are half as good as their brews, I cannot wait to get back up there to give them a try!

Cheers to the outstanding staff at Jolly Pumpkin for a memorable visit and a beautiful brewpub!!

I went here with my father and brother-in-law while on vacation in Michigan. I had heard about this small satellite brewery from the main brewery of Jolly Pumpkin which is located in Dexter, Michigan.

This is located behind the "Old Mission" and currently is not fully operational. The bartender (who was very polite) told us how they were still in the process of getting the brewery on site up and running. No matter, the three of us ordered a pint of Bam Bière and instead of staying in the actual bar (which was spacious and decorated nicely) we instead choose to take the pint outside to the deck in front of "Old Mission" and enjoy the beautiful landscape. It was truly relaxing and quite an experience enjoying this fine brew with family looking over a glistening lake Michigan, shaded by the tall pine trees, and feeling the wind come off of the lake.

If anyone is ever around Traverse City, this is a nice little side trip to make. Also, they had numerous Jolly Pumpkin bombers for sale at the bar.

This brewery was the last on our trip that we made and was well worth it. The Jolly Pumpkin is located on the Old Mission Penisula which was sort of a odd location and away from practically all the other businesses in Traverse City. The atsmosphere was well, as the place was very relaxing and enjoyable.

Ended up getting some food and also a 5 Beer Sample. The samples I got included: an IPA, a Cherry Wheat, a special Cider, Bam Noire and Siren Amber Ale...all which were wonderful tasting and quite enjoyable. They had a few others available which I shall try the next time being up there.

The service was also quite good, we had a girl that was in training but all of the waitstaff was very nice and helpful, especially in discussing a little about the brewery and what to expect in the future.

I think the best part about getting the sampler was the price itself...$6! The price of the food was moderate also, but great at the same time.

All and all I enjoyed going to the Jolly Pumpkin, will return, look for more beers and highly recommend.

I use to work here and this is where I developed my pallet for sour beers and I have my very first Oro De Calabaza.

Great sours, and about 8 other beers on tap. $1 for a 5 oz taster of any beer on tap. They only had 4 jolly pumpkin sours on tap, but I liked all of them. esp otono

A bit out of the way, but it would be a beautiful spot during the daylight hours!

Good knowledgeable and friendly staff.

This place is set back off Peninsula Drive on the Old Mission Peninsula of Traverse City, MI.
A historic site with 6,000 + square footage sitting on what seems to be a 50 acres of grape vines. Very beautiful and rustic atmosphere. The bar lends to an older era; very Steven King.
I sampled many of the Jolly Pumkin brands off of the tap and all were fresh and enjoyable. The bar staff was very knowledgeable and accomodating.
I was given a personal tour by one of the managers and it was very interresting and educational. I was told that Jolly Pumkin will start maiking it's own line of spirits; Rum, Vodka, Gin and wiskey. These spirits are to be distilled on premesis on Old Mission. Very cool.
I was also told that JP was going to be handling some of the brewing and distribution for the local Traverse City North Peak brewery. Also very cool and interresting.
I cannot say enough about the hospitality of the staff of Jolly Pumkin the experince was exceptional.
Many thanks to them. If visiting the TC area the JP on Old Mission is a must.

Lovely spot just north of Traverse City. We visited late afternoon, and we were lucky, because the wait was 2 hours when we left. Great food, excellent beers, and friendly attentive service make this a superb place to visit.

Tucked away behind the Bowers Harbor Inn on the Old Mission Peninsula north of downtown Traverse City, this was the second stop on a 4-brewery crawl in the area.

The interior is remarkably serene and comfortable with a lodge-like atmosphere and white table cloths. I felt under dressed in t-shirt and shorts. It was an odd dynamic of uber-chic and sports bar as there was white table cloths and cloth napkins mixed with TV's, jeans and t-shirt wearing employees and a Golden Tee machine. Not a problem just out of the ordinary.

The service was very friendly, albeit a little lacking on knowledge of the beer. I requested a bottle that had yet to be chilled as I intended to cellar it for some time. The server did bring an un-chilled bottle but had explained the temperature changes from cold to warm had no effect on the unpasteurized beer. 8 brews were on tap with Oro de Calabaza and La Roja available for purchase in bottle at $13 each. The flight ($10) consisted of a cherry wheat, North Peak Siren, North peak Diabolical IPA, Bam Biere, Bam Noire, a low-cal beer called 29er, North Peak Vicious which was a wheat IPA, and an unfiltered wheat. All were very good. Most of the North Peak beers were eerily similar in taste and color however with most indistinguishable in color from the one next to it.

Appetizers were ordered and both were good and moderately priced. The so-called Truffled French French fries are indistinguishable from their less expensive cousins lacking the trendy ingredient. The hummus was a little bland needing salt and lemon.

Overall it was worth the trek up the Peninsula with beautiful views and a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere with good beer to back it up. I look forward to trying their other location down in Weasel-town.
