12 ounce bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled 5/20/16.

Pours a dark brown, pretty opaque, with a two finger head and a good amount of foamy lacing. A cola aroma- also malt, Belgian yeast, toffee, raisins, bread, figs, light cherries. The taste is malt, Belgian yeast, figs, raisins, caramel, prunes, some molasses, and again, light cherries. No hint of alcohol, a pretty good achievement for the ABV and the style. Very smooth for the ABV, solid body, well carbonated.

Wow. Complex. flavorful, a unique Belgian Dark. The flavor really opens up as it warms. A very enjoyable effort. Well worth a purchase.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 7/22/2015. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, fig, cherry, date, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, pepper, clove, light licorice/banana, toasted biscuit, light roast, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of huge raisin, prune, fig, cherry, date, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, pepper, clove, light licorice/banana, toasted biscuit, light roast, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, prune, fig, cherry, date, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, pepper, clove, toasted biscuit, light roast, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible Belgian strong dark ale. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Sampled on tap at Crunchy's in East Lansing as part of a taster tray. Pours a pretty deep brown color with amber highlights, with just a thin ring of a head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and a touch of roasted character, along with a good dose of dark fruit and lots of boozy alcohol.
Palate is very sweet up front. Caramel, honey, and dark fruit (plum, nectarine, dark cherry) notes are prevalent. Finish is nice and heavily fruity, almost like a fruit syrup, again with a lot of booze that imparts a good bit of heat. Body is velvety smooth and very easy drinking, especially for a beer this strong. For a beer that calls itself Belgian, though, it doesn't have very bubbly carbonation. This is a nice slow sipper, very enjoyable.

Had a snifter at the Kalamazoo Beer Exchange of the pitch-black ale. Despite the color, I didn't pick up any roasted character, instead there was a big sweet mix of banana, plums, and toffee. I'd have liked it a touch drier, but it's not a bad take on the style. Give it a shot.

12 oz brown bottle - Born on November 4, 2016

Dragonmead Sin Eater's body is dark brown almost black with a slight red cast when held up to the light. A tan 1-finger head sat atop but dissipated quickly leaving no lacing. The smell was of dark fruit and dark candy sugar with a little chocolate noticed. The taste is close to the nose with flavors of roasted malts, and toffee picked-up. Mouth feel is high-medium, and of smooth texture - almost creamy. Carbonation is light.

Overall, great drinkability for such a high abv. I'll have another.

Beer review from 9/17/11; pours a dark brown color with a reddish hue around the edges and a foamy tan 2 finger head that fades quickly and left weak spotty lacing.

Smells of caramel, syrup, sweet malt, dark fruit like dates, plums and cherry, molasses, brown sugar and alcohol; this beer smells like a barleywine, with a very sweet nose that was fruity and sugary with an almost red wine like essence.

Tastes of caramel, syrup, sweet malt, dark fruit like dates, plums, cherry and rotten grapes, molasses, brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, pepper and other spices, yeast, grains and alcohol; this beer is so sweet that it borders on too sweet, with a grainy, fruity sweetness that dominates the nose and palate. There is an oily hop residue after each swallow, but no hop taste, and as the beer warms the fruits and sour fruit flavors become more evident. I assume that the ABV is high based on the characteristics, but don't know for sure.

Mouthfeel is watery, slick and smooth, with basically zero carbonation, a heavy body and a heavy feel that is chewy, but not as heavy as a stout.

At first I thought that this was too sweet, but it got better as it warmed and the sweet flavors brought out more dynamics and enjoyment as this flowed down. A good beer, but certainly not a session beer, yet still worth trying.
