Jun 2020 Review
12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Bottle dated March 2019.
Pour: deep amber brown. Thin tan head. Some lacing. 3.75
Nose: dark sweet fruit, holiday spices. 3.5
Taste: sweet malt, turbinado sugar, Clive, cinnamon, nutmeg, dark stone fruits. Slight hop bitterness. Lots going on but cloyingly sweet. 3.25
Feel: moderate carbonation. Sticky feeling. 3.25
Overall: I’m no expert on the style so won’t judge that way. Not my favorite; just too cloyingly sweet but there is a lot going on and it’s an interesting beer. But likely won’t revisit. 3.5

Look: Very dark cola brown. No head whatsoever.
Smell: Sweet, spicy malt and bourbon cherries.
Taste: Sweet and mild biscuity malt. Actually much closer to a mild brown ale. No booze taste or hops.
Mouthfeel: Slightly thin and highly carbonated.
Overall: If I wasn’t told this was meant to be a scotch ale, I never would have guessed. It’s a pretty good beer, but not the style it’s advertised as.

Pours a reddish brown color with a minimal head that disappears quickly. Aromas of cocoa and coffee. Taste Is smooth with a hint of maple. Good mouth feel.

This is my favorite beer, by far one of the best beers from one of the best breweries in Michigan. I think this beer goes according to the style with every other one I have tried. There is another beer that comes close but does not have the richness this one does, this is a great one for a cold winter night or a nice fall day!

Pours a reddish black, no head or lacing. Aroma is smoky peat and alcohol. Flavor is similar, hints of caramel and toffee. Medium bodied, no carbonation. No date on the bottle, not sure how fresh it is. As Scotch Ales/Wee Heavies go, well let's just say you can do better.

Dragonmead Under The Kilt Wee Heavy.
Haven't had a Scotch Ale in a few years so why the hell not pick one up. Only had one beer out of these guys that was pretty meh, but I figured I'd give 'em another shot.
Look - Pours a deep, nearly black shade of red only slighty penetrable by the light with glowing rubies around the edges with a two finger moderately off white head that has thus far stuck around pretty well. Carbonation appears to be on extreme with this one. The head retained all the way through as a cap on the top of the swill. No lacing was left. Unfortunately, the look was the only nice thing about this beer. 4.
Smell - Peat on the front end with a very slight tinge of nuttiness and some toasted malts. Has an odd ' old beer ' kind of smell to it. The smell you get when a beer sits around for too long after you opened it. Still smells alright I guess, but there just isn't much to this nose. 3.
Taste - Maybe I'm just not getting it. I'm picking up some toasted malts and a trace of the peat, but more or less this thing is just tasting like a toasted, smooth, darker version of a malt liquor. There truly isn't much going on here at all. There is even a grape fusel alcohol thing going on. 2.25.
Feel - At least it has the right feel. For the most part. Somewhat thick bodied with extremely heavy carbonation. Goes down watery sad to say. 2.75.
Overall - Alright to be honest for a $4 bottle this thing fucking sucked. It's like they tried making a ' light ' version of a scotch ale or something, and forgot the majority of what goes into it. It isn't the WORST beer I've ever had, far from it actually. But it is most definitely the worst scotch ale I have ever had. I will never buy it again at its price point. Ever. This will probably be my last beer out of this brewery. This is to the scotch ale what a guinness draught is to a stout. I don't even think I can finish the glass. 2.25.
