Very Good
Notes: The Porter style was almost lost in England with the advent of cheaper and more prevalent alcohols like Gin. This recreation of an 1850 style Porter is more see-thru than a stout and is moderately hopped with Northern Brewer hops. One taste and you'll see why this was the most popular style in the north of England.

Another of these beers that absolutely paints the inside of the glass with a latte-colored opaque layer. Supple, with generous cocoa and coffee flavors around apricot and apple fruit. A touch of wet, burned grain appears briefly up front, then recedes. My wife asks, "what's the diff between a Porter and a Stout?" I try to explain in socio-economic-historical terms and fail. Too bad the Stout was gone already or we could have tasted the change. This is a little fruitier, I'd say, with a little less chewiness, relative to the Reverend Fred.

Hopped with Northdown and Bramling Cross hops, conditioned in a bourbon seasoned cask, and served on handpull. OG=1.049. Clear, dark brown to black with a thin light tan head atop small bubbles. Carbonation is mild, with poor lacing and retention. Aroma is sweet, chocolatey, lightly fruity, with hints of coffee. Flavor begins with delicate, earthy flavor hops. Suggestion of fusel alcohols and an astrigent note of scotch, lightly tart, earthy, with a woodsy finish which is somewhat harsh. Mouthfeel is watery and light, with a suprisingly thin body, similar in texture to Grant's Perfect Porter.

This was not a bad beer, it just lacked flavor. Poured out to a dark brown / black color similar to coffee. Thin off white foamy head. Lower carbonation. Aromas of hops and coffee. Flavor was the same, but left me feeling like the guy next to me got all the taste. Coffee and hops were present, as were some eathy mild notes, but not enough to keep me interested. Mouthfeel was slightly chewy, but could've still had more consistancy. Decent drinkability. There are better American Porters out there, but this is a worthy offering. Worth a try.

Pours dra brown or black with a thick, creamy light tan head whcih leaves lots of thick, puffy lace on the dimpled mug.
Aroma has chocolate, light coffee notes, roasted peanuts, charcoal and minor peat note.
Flavor is short semi-sweet chocolate note to start, switching quickly to a roasted and charcoal and finishing up with a hint of coffee bitterness.
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, light, yet full-bodied, roasted notes overpower the sweetness but not so mcu to be unbalanced.
Drinkability is very high. Prototypical to style for me with appropriate sweet, roasted and bitter notes.

Beer poured into a mug

Color is a deep brown color with an inch to two inch light tan head. Plenty of nice lacing on the sides of the glass.

Aroma is light, slightly malty and sweet.

Upfront there is a mild nutty flavor with a smooth complex finish of brown sugar, carmel, and malty notes.

Being a nitro pour, it was extremely creamy. This is the best way to serve this beer. I feel it accentuates the sweetness.

Definitely a beer I've come back to drink regularly. Underrated in Dragonmead's portfolio in my opinion.

I tried this beer at the brewery. It poured a nearly opaque dark amber with off white head that did not leave much lace. The scant had sweet bread presence. the taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base and a light hop clean finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a decent beer.
