glass: nonic

a: Dark brown copper body with tinges of red. Fluffy and creamy 1-finger head. Splashy lacing. Looks nice.

s: Cereal grain, roasted coffee and cocoa nibs, sharp overtones of citric hops and tart cherry.

t: again, lots of cereal grain in the taste. Mild overall. Citric hops, a touch of chocolate, some date, molasses and cherry. Slightly astringent.

m: A bit watery, tries to make up for it in carbonation. The result is a mid-pallete collapse.

o: Not very good..

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #33 (Oct 2009):

A contract-brewed brand where a portion of the proceeds go to a charity. Brewed with pure Indian Wells Spring Water. OK, go figure.

Hazy reddish amber view; decent lacing does not stay around for long. Nose is a little husky and citric with a faint bubble gum or medicinal note. Slick, snappy body made us almost grimace as the snap ended with a near astringent collision with the taste buds. Hops come across a bit coarse with the backside of American hop flavor of watery citric and grassy flavors. Grainy with a dirty toasted husk flavor in the puckering finish.

A bit pedestrian, lackluster and somewhat out of whack. Not horrible, but hardly a something to quaff back. Perhaps someone needs to make a call to the contract brewer on this one.

Poured a deep amber red with a thin ring of head that disappeared quickly. Standard for a red ale. Scents of toasted grain, a slight hint of roast malt and some toffee aromas. Pretty good, but nothing spectacular. The taste was mostly toasted malt, with some slight toffee and nutty flavors and a grain husk finish. There was also a slight sourness to it. Not bad, but I've had better red ales. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, with low carbonation. It drank well enough. Overall it's an okay red ale, though I'd go with Marble's any day.

I like the Fireman's Redhead ale....its got a great malty caramel base that is lightly balance by hops. The beer pours a clear rich amber with thin white head that is not lacing much. The smell is mostly malty....with hints of sweetness. The mouthfeel is ligh to medium inbody with good carbontation. Overall its a nice session ale...not the best red I've ever had, but decent.

Pours a half finger of head on a clear, but dark red colored body.
The aroma is a nice wet grain smell.
The taste is big on the malt side, though not too sweet. There's some caramel and mild lemon bitterness. Nicely balanced.
The texture is smooth with moderate carbonation.
It's a easy drinking brew.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of toasted malts, bread. Taste is bready malts, light hops, smooth and easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a little light on the hops, but this is a pretty good beer.

Appearance- Body is a crystal clear, dark, copper red or ruby with practically not head.

Smell- Decent malt background with a pleasing coffee rostiness and a hint of toastiness.

Taste- Hints of malt, roasted malts, hint of malt sweetness. Taste is quite thin for this style. To bad, because what taste is there is quite nice.

Mouthfeel- A tad thin and over-carbonated.

Drinkability- I'll give it another shot in a couple of years.

12oz. brown longneck with no freshness date, but an inked bottling code on the bottle below the label. It pours a darkish coppery-red with a short lived, ivory colored finger of foamy head. Good carbonation is evident, but the brew has no head or lace whatsoever after less than ten minutes.

The smell is faintly sweet malts with a dose of insecticides? Not really sure what this smell is but it reminds me of a Holiday fogger...very strange. This is the third bottle out of a six-pack, I don't recall the first bottle having this strange of a smell or flavor for that matter, but it was consumed out of the bottle, not poured into a glass. The flavor is somewhat balanced but leans a little towards the malts. Not a whole lot going on in the flavor dept. really. Let's just say that it looks much better than it tastes for sure.

Pretty watery mouthfeel, might just be desireable if your truly parched after fightin fires though. Drinkability is average at best, that's all I got. I will give the Blonde a try for comparison's sake.

Note: This ale is contract brewed by Indian Wells Brewing Company. That's all folks.

Fireman’s Brew Redhead Ale has a thin, off-white head, a mostly clear, rust-red appearance, and minimal lacing left on the glass. The aroma is muted, but one can, with deep inhalation, pick up sweet, roasted malt. Taste is of the same, with mild hop bitterness and brown bread crust. Mouthfeel is mostly on the light and watery side, and Fireman’s Brew Redhead finishes fairly crisp and highly drinkable.

A: The beer is clear but dark reddish amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high beige colored head that died down, leaving a thin head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of sweet toasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of toasted malts and malt extracts with slight hints of associated sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied, a little thin and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: While this beer is easy to drink, the smell and taste aren't very interesting and seem like they could both use complexity and hops.
