Style: Foreign / Export Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This 8% abv stout has long been a secret pleasure among beer connoisseurs and indeed our Brewers, who value the mouth watering intensity of its roasted malt, smoked wood and dark chocolate notes, not to mention it's excellent and seemingly endless finish. Since 1944 we have been exclusively exporting this same special stout from Ireland into Belgium through the vibrant port of Antwerp. This is the first time we're making it available for general release in America.

Nice beer from Guinness, too thin for a stout especially an 8% stout but this has a good flavor in the family of the regular stuff except more pronounced and enjoyable.

Way better than Draught "from the bottle" or Extra (although that doesn't take much) not enough body to stand with Foreign Extra.

Recommend trying it.

Pours nice with a dark color body and a short lived frothy head.
Some subdued elements of toasted oats and a touch of hops.
I've always thought that Guinness Stout was somewhat of a "light" stout-- and my sentiments extends to the Antwerpen Stout as well.
I don't know what to make of this brew-- I think it's merely a variation of the usual Guinness Stout-- maybe with a bit more hops-- and a hair less sweetness. I've never had the pleasure of experiencing Guinness Stout first hand over in Ireland-- I'm told it's quite a bit different. The Antwerpen Stout isn't that much different from Guinness Stout in the bottle-- it's an enjoyable beer and worth trying.
My only beef is it's only 11.2 ounce bottle-- they've even shaved .8 ounce from the usual 12 ounce bottle? Even the beer bottles are getting smaller and smaller!

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep brown with just a hint of light creeping through, one-finger creamy off-white head that has good retention

S- smells of roasted malt, sulphur, plums, raisin, cocoa, and a hint of smoke

T- rich dark roasted malt up front gives light notes of char and smoke, followed by dark fruit notes raisin and fig, as well as caramel, even a bit of tobacco and anise. The finish is roasted with some chocolate undertones

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a silky finish

O- like a Guinness on steroids, plenty of roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit, very good

330ml bottle from Tesco, Fermanagh (£1.68):
This one was a very nice beer from Guinness & easily one of the best, if not the very best, that I've tried from the brewery so far. There was a lot more complexity to the beer than anticipated with it coming through quite rich & sweet, plenty of chocolate & darker fruits featuring alongside some nice coffee & roasted flavours. It was a balanced & smooth offering that went down much easier than I thought it would & it's definitely a beer that I'll be on the look out for again.

Just an overall unique take on classic Guinness, it has a slight salty seaweed taste that blends perfectly with the dark stouty taste of a tradition Guinness.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This rather nice stout pours a rich
blackish brown with a nice head of off white foam that subsides to a thick ring,
thin subtle pool, and displays light sudsy lacing. Nose of light smoke, earthy
cask notes, and subtle chocolate notes. Flavors follow but exceed by presentation
alone with smoke and char touched chocolate malts touched with wood and deeply
roasted grains and malts. excellent mouth feel; medium full body, low carbonation,
and as the label says a long finish laden with chocolate and smoked oaken notes.

Overall a fantastic brew worthy of the Guinness name and one of the best stouts I
have had from them period.

Cheers!

Pours dark with a rich creamy head. You can smell the coffee and chocolate aroma. This is the best offering that I have sampled from Guinness. I have two more in the fridge and look foreward to drinking them

Decanted from an 11.2 oz bottle into a conical pint glass; stamped with serial number L7033GF003, but no clear production data.
A: Clear darkest brown to black with a half inch head after initial pour (but low retention) and solid, persistent lacing.
S: Aromas of toast, roast coffee beans, and toffee with a slightly spicy note.
T: Tastes sweet initially with roasted coffee flavor blending into and well balanced with a bitterness/licorice/star anise flavor that leaves tingling on the palate and back of the tongue.
M: Full bodied which is enhanced by aggressive effervescence.
O: Complex and very satisfying. Certainly a great interpretation of what a Foreign/Export Stout should taste like. A favorite.

Poured from bottle in the shaker monster 3 finger tan head, great retention and lacing. Jet black in the glass. Smells of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste of roasted malt chocolate, express. Very full middle and finishes on the dry side like its little brother.

Bottle poured into 2/3 pint glass. Dark brown, not quite black. Fairly pathetic head. Smells vaguely of chocolate and marshmallows with a slightly dusty aroma which unfortunately predominates. Taste follows the nose; quite sweet and a peculiar confectioned aftertaste. Mouthfeel is pretty poor in my opinion; I can't stand "fizzy" stout. I was excited to try this but was disappointed in the end. Oh well. Cheers anyway

Black colour as you would expect with a thin fluffy tan coloured head.

Super beer, chocolate, vanilla with some burnt malt at the back end.

Excellent example of this style, perhaps the best.

Poured from a 330cl bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark mahogany brown color with a thick tan head. The aroma is very mild, mostly malt. The taste is malt goodness with a black licorice finish.
