Appearance: Pours pretty black with ruby highlights. Big tan head and large wheel-spike lacing.

Aroma: Chocolate roasty. Nice.

Taste: Roasty chocolate and burnt malts with a bittersweet character and licorice finish. Body is smooth, light in body, and very easy to drink. Solid beer.

I like stouts, but can't understand the heretofore low ratings. Almost black in the glass with small head and good lacings. Slight fizz on the tongue and nutty flavor with trace of bitterness at the end. Back label is in Spanish with expiry date 18 months away. Also used it to make an outstanding beef stew. Try it !

11.2 oz bottle poured into a Guinness imperial pint.
4.2% ABV

A - Despite their slogan being, "A pint of black", Guinness is actually a beautiful, perfectly clear ruby red that just so happens to look almost completely black in the pint. Even without the Guinness-invented nitrogenation, Original pours with a tall cap of mocha foam that lowers to a lumpy pile slowly while leaving sheets of lace on the pint.

S - Wonderful dry, roasted malts waft from the beer with classic baker's chocolate and oily espresso bean undertones with a hint of burnt bread crust and a dark fig newton fruity finish. Earthy and smooth, the aroma of Guinness Original is an inviting one.

T - Earthy, woody-like hops are quickly washed away by roasted malt that boasts a smooth and delicious bitter chocolate flavor that lingers with a oily coffee bean-like note on the finish.

M - Despite the lack of nitrogen bubbles in this stout, it remains quite smooth with only carbonation which is fairly high. The crisp and light body defies what you'd expect from a beer this dark as it finishes dry and roasted with just a touch of gritty bitterness.

O - From its exceptional appearance and inviting aroma to the smooth, roasted flavor and body, Guinness Original is similar to the nitro Guinness everyone knows, yet also completely different at the same time. This limited release beer is quite delicious and satisfying in every regard.

Imbibed American style, cold, it's awful. Consumed at slightly cooler than room temp it's excellent! Great taste, a beer you can chew, heady aroma, and a not unpleasant lingering afterwards. Gotta be in my top 10.

12 oz. bottle -

Pours very dark brown to black with a light brown lasting head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of chocolate, roasted coffee - classic "Guinness" aroma - maybe a bit richer.

The taste is of chocolate and roasted coffee - bittersweet finish.

It is smooth - pretty creamy - a bit watered down.

Not much different than the "classic" Guinness - it's a Guinness without the nitro pretty much. Very easy to drink.

0,33 cl bottle.
Purchased in Italy. Front label reads "Original" and it is listed at 5.0% abv. The back label description is in Italian and Portuguese so I assume this is for the Italian and Portuguese markets.
Pitch black body with a full tannish slightly brown head.
The aroma is understated but you can definitely pick out some coffee and bitter chocolate as well as a little sourness.
More bitter chocolate and coffee on the tongue before a solid bitter finish that leaves a little hop behind. As I get down the glass the acidity builds up a bit and becomes, for my taste, unpleasant and unwelcome.
This is a very smooth beer.
Not bad at all, but I'm not a fan of the extra acidity that Guinness stouts tend to have(other than, of course, the draught.) Very much a toned down version of the Extra Stout that's available stateside which makes it a little lighter and smoother and easier to drink.

Smoky and roasted malts almost to the point of burning them. Better as an Irish car bomb or mixer then by itself.

Taste rating in words: it's salad without the dressing.
