330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled on 7/28/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, rye, light honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready/rye malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, pepper, pine, rye, light honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel bitterness and rye spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, rye, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready/rye malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice pale ale! All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready/rye malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Still surprisingly vibrant on hop complexity for being bottled over 4 months ago. A very enjoyable offering.

cool beer, cool label, surprised it doesnt have better ratings. you have to appreciate this for what it is, and i certainly did last night as the snow rapidly piled up outside. a hazy pale brew, without much more than a lazy quarter inch of white head, some visible density to this, but thats nice in the winter time. aroma definitely shows the pale rye malt, its the same rye malt everyone uses it seems, but it comes through fresher and more robust than most, not a safe couple of percent of the mash, but more than enough to make the beer distinct, i appreciate that. the rye comes through nicely in the flavor too, and there is a neat bittering hop here thats not totally flavorless, sort of straw-like, harvesty, pretty cool with the dry and quite spicy rye. if it werent for a dusty tasting european ale yeast, this would be a better beer, but i dont mind a little yeast character here either, sort of like an english pale ale might exhibit, not enough to take over or even be distracting, but enough that the beer isnt clean and crisp and snappy, it sort of drags to its conclusion. overall though, i thought this was pretty cool, pretty bold for guinness, a nice use of a common rye malt, and a needed new flavor after that mediocre (at best) black lager they pushed so hard...

Notes: I love the label with it's blue and gold and white, I hope the beer inside is just as good. Nice appearance with a hazy amber and gold body beneath a full head of rocky white. Very good head retention and lacing - so far, so good. Aroma? spicy, grainy, mineralish, and citrusy. That has to be the rye coming through. Very nice. Flavor? Similar. I thought that perhaps the citrusy hops would be stronger but they're not, the rye remains the focal point, which is good. I find rye upfront and across the middle where the hops step in, followed by rising citrus in the finish as the malt fades. It's not as spicy as the nose suggests, which is probably also good, and a firm bitterness balances it. There's a touch of sweetness in the finish but if it was any drier the spiciness that's there might seem like too much. Mouthfeel? Medium bodied and smooth with a delicately bristling fine-bubbled moderate carbonation that softens to become creamy as it warms. Overall it's hard to argue against. Unless you dislike rye or citrusy hops (or the combination of the two) there'd be no reason to turn it away. In fact I think I'll have another.

They recently got this beer (as well as its partner, Guinness Antwerpen) in at The Friendly Greek Bottle Shop here in Lancaster, PA & having just reviewed a lesser Rye Beer, I am anxious to see how this one fares.

From the bottle: "An Aromatic Amber Ale Brewed With Rye Malt"; "The Brewers Project"; "A group of enterprising brewers on a quest to explore new recipes, reinterpret old ones and collaborate freely to bring exciting beers to life. First created by our Brewers Project as a holiday gift for friends, Rye Pale Ale offers a rustic peppery bite, balanced with citrusy grapefruit notes from Mosaic (tm) and Cascade hops."

I am not a fan of bottled beers, but if I must review them, I at least enjoy the Pop! of the cap. Having accomplished this momentous, monumental feat, I went with an aggro pour as I was anxious to taste another Rye Beer after a previous let-down. This created three-plus fingers of dense, rocky, bone-white head with good retention. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was both earthy and spicy, like my neighbor working in her pepper garden. Mmmm. Rye is my Achilles heel. I love it in bread, beer and especially whisky. It has such a great spicy pepperiness that, when used properly, imparts unique flavors. Mouthfeel was medium. The grapefruit flavor mentioned on the label was subdued, but unfortunately, so was the pepperiness of the rye. It was more prevalent than in the previous beer, but still underutilized. I understand that it is a real consideration for brewers since the gluten in rye breaks down VERY easily & quickly and can make a dense, sticky mess in the mash tun if overused. I get that, but then I have also met daredevil brewers who used as much as 40% rye (!) in the malt bill. Finish was dry, cool, slightly minty, slightly peppery, both of the latter a result of using rye malt. Just imagine what it would be like in a higher percentage! I liked this well enough and if it were to show up in CANs, I would happily give it another go.

Poured from 330 ml bottle into schooner glass

A pillowy 2" off white head drops slowly with some lacing. Color is cloudy amber with abundant streaming carbonation. Aroma of peppery rye, bready malts and some citrus. Medium bodied & creamy with a somewhat damp finish. Flavor has some definite rye sharpness along with biscuit and some herbal and caramel along with bittering citrus. A good but not outstanding offering.

Appearance: Clean amber, with decent off-white head and no lace.

Aroma: Nice hoppy profile here, with accents of fruit and citrus. A good start.

Taste: Hope here seem muted, alongside malty caramel and spices (presumably from the rye). I can taste the buttery phenol notes, clearly indicating an older bottle. A shame as the aroma showed such promise.

Overall, over-carbonated and rather light, and with the age, a little weak. Would love to try fresh someday.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

A foamy capped, easily three finger tall off white head. Top is marked by low peaks, almost a nitrous like appearance and very fine. Body is a nice dark brown to copper color. Mostly clear if a little hazy.

Spiced like fruit angle, and a touch of soft caramel. Has a mild sense of floury grain as well, but otherwise pretty straightforward. Very solid fruit character being taken from a bit of yeast and rye it seems, possibly even a bit of hop.

Palate manages some standard English bitter character. Fruity ale yeast character but also quite a bit of a wet body surprisingly. Small hints of tea, and less subdued spicy character than the malt seems to hint at on the nose. Slightly peppery twinge on the front of the tongue as well on subsequent sips which make it interesting.

Comes off like a standard simple English bitter if dumbed down but not so terribly.

Pours hazy, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is mineral, wheat, and a touch of rye on the finish, Sweet, medium bodied, medium-low carbonation. Makes for a solid, above average rye beer. I prefer other rye beers, but this is worth a shot.

A - hazy rusty-amber colored ale is capped with a creamy ivory head
S - earthy and a bit fruity, faint caramel and rye bread
T - earthy rye, grain, bread crust, crystal malt, pepper, earthy & grassy hops
M - light-to-medium body, finishes dry with modest bitterness
O - mediocre amber ale with rye in my opinion. Always glad to try something new, but I'd pass on this if I encountered it again.

From the 11.2 fl oz bottle that is stamped L6210GF004-07:19. I am sure that means something Sampled on November 20, 2016.

Medium amber pour with a slightly cloudy character and a small head.

The aroma does bring out a grainy character but I also pick up a very sweet male character that overrides that. Low hop profile.

Medium body with moderate texture.

Sweet grains would be the best way to describe the taste with a clean, mildly bitter finish. Pretty basic and nothing that stands out. But it still tastes pretty good for what it is.

Guinness Rye Pale Ale has a rather thin, soapy, white head, a sediment-filled, cloudy, copper-gold appearance, which really clouds up, following the "swish & pour". Aroma is odd- lots of mild citrus, with sourdough bread and sweetness, but not too much rye. Taste is the same, with a very low profile rye note. Mouthfeel is medium and a bit slick, and Guinness Rye Pale Ale finishes mostly dry.

Guinness Rye Pale Ale brewed by Guinness Ltd., with an ABV 5.00% This brew pours out a deep golden amber color, with a nice thick white head. This brew also has a nice amount of lacing to it, the lacing sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with flavors. You first pick up on the grains and malts. Then you pick up on the hops. The smell and look of this brew is really inviting. So far this brew is a nice looking brew. Now for the taste, it is bold with flavors, your first pick up on the nice rich grins and malts. Then a slight bitterness of hops. There is a lot going on in brew. This brew has all the characteristics of a pale ale, on the market, not saying that is a bad thing. The mouth feel of Guinness Rye Pale Ale is Bold , Rich , Clean , Smooth and Refreshing. This brew goes down nice and smooth. I really like this brew, it was better than what I was expecting. Overall I'm giving Guinness Rye Pale Ale a 4.50 out of 5. I would buy this brew again. Guinness Ltd, did a real nice job with this one. If you are looking for a medium pale ale look this brew up.

Clear copper colored, thick white head. Aroma is a bit stale. Taste is bland, a bit oxidized. Either old or not good to begin with. Thin bodied.
