Guinness and Lager do not mix. I love Guinness Regular (in the pub) and Guinness Extra Stout and my favorite is Foreign Extra but this Guinness is terrible. It tasted slightly like Guinness but it just didn't hit the spot of the way other Guinness tastes. Lager is lager and Guinness is Guinness. Just keep it that way.

Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights; the ruby is accentuated with a back light.

Smell is mundane; maybe some sweet notes, nothing really takes my breath away. Taste is much of the same, tastes like a euro lager with added roasted barley... sour, astringent, no hop presence and the mouth feel is thin and watery. No body what so ever.

This is essentially Harp Lager with chocolate malt added for color and it adds a bit of a roasty flavor. I suppose if you really, really, really, like Harp you should pick this up, otherwise, pass...

Uninspired and uninteresting. There are better beers out there that *deserve* your money.

Poured blackness into a pint (despite the "drink straight from bottle" suggestion - wtf Guinness?). Several fingers of light tan fluffy, fizzy head - decent lacing.

Sweet malt nose, some roastiness and light diacetyl.

A sip is well-carbonated and thin - watery sweet roasted malts and pretty plain bitterness on the back end. Nothing special, but easy to drink.

It seems that everyone is trying to compare this to their flagship beer and that's totally inappropriate. It's a Euro Lager - it's pretty sessionable and it's basically just not bad. Could they have done better? I'm sure, but it's something new - reminds me of a thin Smithwick's.

Pours dark black with a creamy white head that fades fast but leaves nice lacing.

Clean, faint roasted malt and touch of cocoa.

Very clean with roasted malt and cocoa notes. Earthy with a bitter finish.

Medium/thin, clean and crisp

Easy to drink, ok but boring beer.

Poured a deep brown hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured light roasted malts and a soft sweetness.

The flavor was likewise round and moderately roasty with a grassy hop at the finish.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a tasty easy drinking beer.

Pours pitch black with brown around the edges when held up to light, and a 1 finger creamy tan head that leaves decent lacing and a creamy layer on top.

Smells of roasted malt, grains, caramel, toffee, herbs and light floral hops; the nose is mostly malt and overall gives off roasted notes.

Tastes like it smells with roasted malt, grains, caramel, toffee, light coffee beans, wheat bread or biscuit, herbs like tea leaf and light floral hops; malty, roasted and grainy with a slight hoppy zest that adds some bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp and refreshing, with a light body, light fizzy carbonation and a funky malt after taste which is on the dry side.

Overall a decent malty lager which is a nice addition to the Guinness line of products, but just an above average beer unlike the classic Guinness Stout.

Black Lager looked like watered down molasses during the pour, but settles to a rich almost black color in the pint glass. Pretty thin in the head department with just a quarter of an inch that's falling fast. No lace of promise.

Smells of wet dark grains. Earthy and musty with a mild aroma of hops. Mostly a healthy cereal kind of aroma to the malt with a bit of sugars noticeable. Some grassy notes.

Attenuated and almost wort-y, without the sweetness. Malty grains like a stale cereal. Pretty much follows the nose, but perhaps a little drier. More of that Euro mustiness that comes from the leftover hops. Wet earth. A little bit of black tea. Some finishing bitterness. Pretty unremarkable.

Easy to drink. Medium-light body with meager carbonation. Not a great feel, but ok.

I'm not too well-versed in the Euro Dark Lager style because I don't seek them out, but Guinness didn't make a bad beer here. Not satisfying to pick up a sixer of, but I'm glad my girlfriend brought some back to the house. Don't mind turning to it when I want a beer.

Guinness Draught was the beer that taught me there's more to beer than fizzy, yellow lagers, so I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Guinness Ltd. I almost feel obligated to tick this beer. Is it a worthy offering, or just a gimmick import? Let's find out.

This beer is nearly completely black with a head that retains well. The nose is very plain, with the generic grainy, beer-y smell.

The taste follows the nose; this a painfully ordinary-at-best brew. Maybe there's some cocoa in there, but it's mostly a grainy taste. It's clean, but also very watery.

When it comes to products that sport the Guinness name, I'lll stick with the stouts. Still, I wouldn't decline this if offered.
