Poured hard into a tulip, one finger head that held on for about a minute before dying to a persistent foam on top. Look is beautiful, very dark basically black unless held up to a light, then you'll see a bit of Ruby red in there. The nose is a subtle coffee and the trademark Guinness sour. I don't get the chocolate others mention. Taste is good, a deep coffee-ish flavor profile with a very subtle chocolate sweetness and that Guinness Tang. It also has a slightly alcoholic finish to it. The mentioned sweetness will linger in the mouth for a while and is pleasant. The feel is a bit chewy and completely appropriate for a stout. Overall it's a nice beer but it lacks complexity as many stouts do. What is there is nice and appropriate for the style, which it should be because Guinness basically invented the style! You could drink a whole sixer of these without blinking. Everyone should try at least once! *I'd like to add an amendment. The alcohol content of this beer has dropped to 5.7% as per the label on my bottle.*

This is my go-to beer. A little harder to find than the draught, but worth looking for. Recently found this beer in an 18 oz bottle.
Appearance is great, dark chocolate brown with ruby highlights, thick caramel head that lasts with excellent lacing.
Nice chocolate and coffee flavors, with a thick and smooth feel.
If you're a stout lover (me!), this is pretty tasty beer that is pretty easily available.

I tried the extra stout after trying a normal draught. Here are my thoughts.

L - Great. Pours a dark brown, almost black. Very good retention.

S - Notes of dark coffee, dark chocolate, and a little molasses.

T - Pretty similar to the aroma with a little more grain than a normal Guinness.

F - Goes down easy, Not a ton of carbonation, but slips down nice and easy.

O - Still don't like it as much as a normal Guinness Draught, but I'd take one of these any day of the week.

This was pretty much the only widely available, seriously dark brew you could get here in the U.S.....WAY before the stouts/porters brewed by today's American crafters. Speaking of which beat this for better flavor handily. But this does have a lot of character.

This was the beer that introduced me to the world of stouts and helped make them my favorite style. This is a complex beer with many nuances. Every time I try it, I pick up on another element to the smell or taste. This will likely lead to my amending this review. I honestly think there are inconsistencies from batch-to-batch due to larger scale production. I will focus on the features characteristic to best bottles I have had.

Look- Amazing. There is no more appealing beer to me than Guinness in a proper glass. The beer itself is an extremely dark brown to near- black. There is a 1/8 inch thick, light tan head that stay with the brew until the end. The lacing is, of course, famous. It costs the sides of a clean glass in a way that is somewhat reminiscent of a spiderweb.

Smell- Generally, the first aroma one picks up is molasses.Burnt coffee is also very noticeable. Hints of caramel, and sometimes honey can be detected. Dried fruit is also present. The overall aroma is slightly sweet. It also can be described as a bit toasty,

Taste- The aroma carries over well into the taste. You can detect the molasses, for sure. It is even more pronounced on a really good batch. The coffee aspect is also present, but to a lesser degree. The taste is bittersweet, and the sweetness is heightened a bit more in the best batches.

Feel- There is a nice, carbonated bite on the tongue right away. The bitterness is slightly astringent but not at all unpleasant. The swallow is just a bit creamy, and the bitterness is stays on the back of the throaty for a moment. Aside from the look, the feel might be the most outstanding feature of this beer, as it enhances the taste and overall experience.

If the batch is fresh, this is one of my all-time favorite beers. If you are looking to see what a typical stout is like, I can't think of a better example. It pairs very well with desserts, especially chocolate cake. As mentioned, don't be surprised if each experience with this beer is a little different. It is regarded highly around the world for a very good reason. In fact, I have personally given individual bottles of this beer perfect 5/5 reviews in the past, only to drop the smell and taste ratings because of the inferiority of another batch. When it's at its best, this beer honestly merits top marks. Others have also noticed variances in quality, irrespective of dates. This probably has to do with mass marketing.

This is a very fantastic dark and hearty beer to savor. Very rich stout that flushes the mouth with a lovely heavy taste and smells almost like leather. Feels very firmly smooth and goes down really well.

Nice foreign beer to indulge in casually for sure.
