The original irish stout that started it all my wee boys. It pours a dark and can I say very dark with nice carbonation. The smell is a nice string quartet of malt with faint flow of burnt wheat. The taste is of coffee and chocolate in the best kind of way. This is one of my absolute favorite stouts out there.Overall will be getting this one again.... And again.

From the bottle, it pours a dark brown or black with only the faintest tinge of brown at the edges. The modest head stays for awhile. Roasted malt in the nose. The same in the mouth. Yum!

Very black pour yet a lot of ruby notes around the edge. Thick foamy tan four fingers of head.

Lots of roasted malts and stone fruits. Some chocolate creeping in around the back of the smell.

Tastes of good roasted malts. Maybe some figs creeping around the edges. Some chocolate hidden way in the background.

Mouth is on the edge of light and borders medium with a slick wet finish and some lingering bitter.

Not bad for a stout that should not fill you up or overpower with the alcohol level. On the lighter edge of the stout spectrum and probably a good beer for those looking to try the dark side. Something one could easily drink several of.

Dark brown to black color with a thick beige head with great retention.
Nice aroma with predominant notes of chocolate, cream coffee and biscuit.
Flavor with notes of cola, cocoa, coffee, roasted grains, mild hay and nuts. Dry aftertaste with a lingering roasted note and medium bitterness.
Light towards medium body with good carbonation.
Solid reference Irish Stout; somewhat plain with low complexity. Interestingly that nose was chocolatey and mouth was leaned towards coffee and cola. That said, I feel this is overrated given its tradition.
