A strong, robust drink that few women (like myself) enjoy. Almost black-brown in colour, this beer pours a fantastic head and takes a little time to settle. It's a roasty beer with a super creamy mouthfeel. Its bitter, almost coffee-like and leaves a beautiful aftertaste. Its strong and I can only have one as it made me a feel a big full. Definitely a big drink that you can hold on to for a while before ordering the next.

22oz bottle served in a standard shaker pint.

pours a deep mahogany tone yielding a 2" fluffy, khaki colored head. very respectable retention and lacing all over the place. all in all a great presentation. i find the nose to be decidedly subdued; offers muted notes of roastiness, a touch of dark chocolate, and maybe coffee.

taste is an improvement, albeit a minor one. the roasted malts are much more perceivable, and secondary notes of dark chocolate and coffee are likewise in attendance. there's a hint of woodiness to it that is nice. finish is dry. medium-light bodied with average carbonation.

overall it's a solid beer, drinkable and reasonably enjoyable though nothing especially noteworthy. they say it's a whole other beer in ireland, a claim i hope to one day verify.
