Should we differentiate Guinness draught between a pub and a can? I decided to move my previous review of the draught to the "Guinness Extra Cold" section, so this is my review of the can ; ) To be honest, the can is probably a lot better than the draught in many pubs, who think that because nitrogen is invisible, it doesn't exist ; ) But in general I prefer the Nigerian and the Australian Guinness, to the Irish one.
There is no better beer in terms of appearance than a freshly poured Guinness. Even from a can, it still looks amazing. Never buy Guinness in a bottle, it's not the same, it needs nitrogen ; )
Unfortunately there is almost no aroma. Before this I had a Marensous Brune, which was 100 times more aroma filled than this.
Taste is a little less smooth than the draught version. And it seems more bitter. It's kind of a cross between draught and the bottle. The hops exctract is noticeable, but the primary flavour is the burnt malts. They are smokey. In some ways, the can has more flavour than the draught, and I could understand how many people likely prefer the can to the draught version. Maybe this is because the can is brewed in Ireland and has the correct water and is less affected by travel than if you drink Guinness in another country like England.
In addition to appearance, I think that the feel of Guinness should also receive a maximum score. When it is from draught in a good pub. There just isn't any other beer that comes close, in terms of creamy smoothness. Not even a Westevelveren 12. However, the can doesn't have the smoothness of draught, so it gets a lower score.
Taste is bitter coffee chocolate with burnt toast and malt. Unfortunately the can is a little too strong and not as delightfully smooth as draught in a good bar, though it's much better than a bottle. Really we should have all of these listed as different beers on Beer Advocate, because they are totally different.
This falls down because of the lack of nitrogen and I think the canning process affects what is inside. I'd much prefer a Chimay Bleu. However a Guinness in a good bar, rivals all beer, including a Chimay Bleu.
Guinness need to start making the Nigerian version and selling it globally. It is an improvement in my opinion. Or the guys in Nigeria should just sell if globally, I want some!

Drank three on draft at McMullens''s in Las Vegas. In the glass it looks crimson brown with a nice dollop of tan head on top that sticks around until you start to do damage. The smell is some malt, and what smells like creek water running over rocks, memories drawn from my childhood. The taste is roasted malt, faint chocolate, grain, and a little bitter, dry, and thin. Really not much going on there, but it's easy enough to drink once you've attuned your palette to the taste and relative lack of body. When you're with the Irish on St. Paddy's you drink what they drink but otherwise I'll take a pass.

Pours creamy tan that gently releases under itself into a dark beer. Nose is creamy as is the taste. Smooth drinking, easy beer. Not great, but not horrible

One of the first beers I bought and drank legally about a decade ago. Almost certainly is the reason for my affection towards darker beers. I don't know if it tasted so good because I was drinking it in contravention to my school's rules against alcohol on campus, or if it was really that good. What I do know, is that it's one of the smoothest beers I've ever drank, with heavy chocolate notes. I should come back to this beer sometime.

In the absence of Foreign Extra Stout I take no real issue falling back on Guinness Draft Stout. It is a good smelling and tasting beer.

Look is black with a foamy white head. Smell is thin and inoffensive. Taste is light with smooth nitrogen cream. Feel is light bodied. Overall, a solid stout when you want something simple. Easily available and found at a good price for a stout.
