Sampled in the Dublin Airport in a pint glass.
Apperance: Lovely black with large tan, foamy head. Seeing this beer being poured into a glass is really is a thing of beauty and deserves nothing less than 5/5.
Smell: Subtle hints of coffee and chocolate
Taste: Dark malty flavor with hints of coffee and some mild (but pleasant) bitterness
Mouthfeel: Smooth, creamy and frothy
Overall: An excellent "go-to" beer, especially when in a pub or bar.

Appearance: Dark dark brown, almost black, with a very good head of foam.

Smell: Dark roasted malts, very faint hints of smoke and coffee.

Taste: Dark roasted malts.

Mouthfeel: Slightly watery yet creamy with very little aftertaste.

The Verdict: It's OK. I know it's considered the gold standard of Irish stouts, but I find it a bit bland and underwhelming. If it tasted as good as it looks it would be nearly perfect.

Finally got around to actually saying a few words about one of the few 'world beers': I've had this in many places over many years. The review is of a pint in a local club near my house in Shropshire, drank during a charity auction on 27th Sep 2013.

It's dark and has a creamy head, any of the other 4,000 plus reviewers notice that?

Malty, chocolate and coffee notes in both the nose and mouth: a classic stout in every way.

Rich more than creamy on the palate, those slightly burnt malts giving a mild bitterness along with their semi-sweet molasses that flavour the beer so well.

Pleased I've put some words down.

had the pleasure of enjoying a pint ( 3 actually ) at the brewery in Dublin. trust me its awesome on draught at the brewery. thick and creamy and so smooth. jet black with a off white head that stayed to the end of the glass. it seems the abv of Guinness in Ireland is a touch higher than whats available in the states also. definitely will go again if I get the chance.
