I very well enjoyed this offering from Guinness - from the packaging to the actual brew itself.

The beer pours a very, very dark brown out of the bottle, then sits in its confines blacker than black. Even in the light the beer looked black, just plain black - it was a sight to behold. The head was thick, frothy, and a beautiful shade of tan; it had staying power and the lacing was thick all around the glass - truly impressive. The smell hinted of citrus with a strong but appealing malty scent. It's mouthfeel was good as well - no stickiness, bold flavor, and little carbonation to get in the way of enjoying the beer - just the way I like it. It's taste was very similar to other Guinness' I have had - strong, hoppy, malty, and just plain good. Overall, I was very pleased with this offering from one of my favorite brewers.

If you drink, don't drive, but if you drive, do us all a favor and don't drink...stay safe...

I have always enjoyed Guinness, but over the years I've come to taste so many stouts that there are, simply put, too many out there that are just better. A solid, enjoyable, creamy stout nonetheless.

Don't take my "3" the wrong way -- I give that to beers that I enjoy but just don't stand out from the rest.

Fortunately or unfortunately, this was my introduction to the wonderful world of beer. Guinness is all appearance and that's where it gets its fame. Nothing looks better than a pint freshly poured with a four leaf clover artfully designed on the top by a skilled barkeep.

At first sniff, it seems bitter and slightly wort-y and taste quickly confirms this suspicion. The hops stand out and there are few other distinct flavors except a slight tinge of roasted malt. On mouthfeel, it strikes a careful balance between watery and creamy. At the end it leaves a welcome, ticklingly bitter sensation on the back of the tongue.

It's something to come back to, but not for any special occasion. It goes well with hamburgers and fattening foods. In my opinion, Guinness Draught could probably be better marketed in the US as a better light beer alternative to the more cardboard-like taste of American light adjunct lagers (Natty, Bud, Miller).

For what it is meant to be, it does the job exceptionally well. If you expect this beer to make your day or give you a psycho-spiritual experience, get real. It's Guinness. It's a pint of plain. You order it with your burger because you want to enjoy your burger.
