Pours a dark reddish brown color. Completely opaque. Thick fizzy tan head dissipates quickly leaving a thin ring of tan foam along the outside of the beer.

Aroma is incredibly bready - like its just liquid dark rye beard and dark breads. Upon closer inspection you get some dark fruit notes, raisins, honey, and overly ripe cherries.

Taste is weird - really weird. Its very cola like ... but has strong pumpernickel bread notes, tart cherries and spicy rye. Extremely sweet - again, like a coca-cola.

Feel is fizzy and cola like. Moderately carbonated. Give the prominence of the bread here, its rather thin bodied. Based not he flavor, I was expecting more of a thicker body based on that.

Look, this seems to be a good example of kvass. I just don't like authentic Kvass.

Served in a Gale Sayers shaker pint glass.

And, just like that, the Original Kvass Kick swerves and heads right on back to Lithuania, but can you blame it? Just look at that sexy, embossed bottle, complete with thick, solid label! Anyway, this stuff pours a deep tawny topped by a finger or so of beige foam. The nose comprises rye bread, cola, honey, pumpernickel, and mild raisins. The bread tries to o'erpower all else, but falls just short of doing so. The taste runs a similar course, the bulk of the situation leaning toward cola-dipped toasted pumpernickel, and then there's a slightly strange intimation of old cocoa powder in the finish. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a crisp-ish finish. Overall, this is a pretty damn solid commercial kvass, especially if your preferences lie with the breadier aspects of the kvass lifestyle.

BOTTLE: No ABV listed. Purchased at a Maxima hypermarket in Vilnius. Brown glass. .4 litre format. Pry-off crown cap.

Pumpernickel meets cola.

Pours deep brown with a medium soda pop head that leaves no lacing. Nose is sweet malt syrup with a bit of dusty yeasty cola. Taste is...yuuuckk...sweet like nothing I've had. A sweet malt flavored, slightly root beer like flavor. Mouthfeel is decent. Overall, something I wouldn't try again. Dumped half...but didn't rate it as poorly as I wanted to because I didn't have anything within style to compare to.
