Brown in color with ruby and garnet highlights, this strong Scotch Ale is sweet and earthy on the nose. Rich flavors of caramel malt and bready notes, this beer exhibits light fruity esters, reminiscent of dates and dark stone fruits, along with the light smoky-earthy characters the style is known for. Ales in Scotland were traditionally named for their strength, and relative cost, in shillings. This beer would be understated as a 120 Shilling Ale.

Brownish orange body topped with a thin yet creamy head. Deep, rich aroma of dark pitted fruits, maple syrup and roasted grains and nuts; brown sugar. Big caramel flavor infused with notes of figs; earthy cinnamon spiciness and very mild hop bitterness; low-key boozy character. Heavy body with some dry residual sugar presence and gentle alcohol heat.
This is a powerful and robust dark ale, complex and slightly boozy.

12 oz bottle traded from superspak, 2018 edition, 11.0% alcohol.
Served in Odell Teku.
Deep mahogany color with a thin grey-beige head of 1/2 finger.
Really huge raisin aromas with some brown sugar, fig, toffee, and scorched caramel.
Wow. Giant tobacco right out front, followed by prune, peat, caramel, box raisins, leather, toffee, and even a hint of tangerine. Huge flavors. Huge. Very mild pine on the way back end.
Feel is a little leathery, slightly oily, with some mild carbonation and a moderate to heavy alcohol burn mostly in the gut and throat. Light heat strokes on the palate, gaining intensity with breaths. Sticky and resiny finish.
Overall, a different and more dark approach to the Scottish Ale; this one gives me tons of rolled tobacco which is nice and a change of pace. This was a delicious Scottish Ale.

L - 1-finger yellow head atop a translucent copper body.
S caramel, citrus, brown sugar, raisins.
T - raisins, sweet caramel, dark fruits, candied oranges. No bitterness. Moderate sweetness. Moderate-low booziness.
F - medium body and carb.
O - a deceptive beer. Tastes like some sort of raisin juice, but is in fact 11% abv.

To be fair, I'm a sucker for this style of beer. Kuhnhenn definitely knows how to explore the diversity of big, malty styles. On tap. Pours a deep ruby-brown. The beer is dominated by dark fruit, brown sugar, and difficult-to-describe, almost whisky-barrel maltiness. A strong beer all around. Certainly an improvement over its diminuitive 70-shilling form, an an excellent base for the incredible mead-infused successor: Too Damn Many Shillings.
