Black with brown highlights; half inch of Ovaltine head. Minimal lace.

Super fragrant French vanilla coffee & creamer. Some dusty dark chocolate as well. Anything else gets buried. Headache inducing.

The flavor gains dimensions with sharply charred marshmallows, vanilla, lactose, oatmeal, milder coffee notes, burnt sugar, & a slight rub of grainy malt. Actual roasted flavors are very minimal. Coffee & earthy greens represent whatever mild notions of bitterness that can fit into this already concentrated dosage of caffeine & sugar. Maybe not the best base stout, but I wouldn't know, since the added flavors are so dominant & delicious.

Carbonation is on the lower side, & whether or not that's because I didn't attack on sight, it does give the illusion of some needed body.

That whole growler wasn't a smart idea. My heart is racing, I'm yawning while my fingers are fretting all over the keyboard. I'm a jittery mess.

Thanks to the ugly duckling for making me this way. :P

What a great chance to try some of the different brews from this place yesterday at the World Beer Fest, this poured a deep dark brown with an almond colored head awesome aromas of caramel and dark roast coffee this hit the nose and woke me up.Taste couldnt get any better like eating vanilla/caramel ice with a hint of coffee. The mouthfeel was amazing like biting into a marshmellow cant think of a better dessert beer I have ever had thats for sure.next time I go home I might have to take a trip down to Warren for this place.

Old notes transferred from December 2012. I had accidentally placed them under the "Imperial Creme Brulee Java Stout" but have since confirmed that it was actually the non-imperial version.

On tap at the Park Bar in Detroit. Deep, dark, black pour with a fine, tan, creamy-looking head. No lacing on the glass, but the head will be around for a while. The initial smell is fantastic - like super sweet coffee and cream. Bittersweet roasted coffee beans fill the aroma, and over time, the smell becomes deeper and more intense. I'm also picking up a Kahlua & cream aroma, very nice and inviting.

The taste starts with an abundance of coffee, roasted to perfection. Hints of toasted malts, chocolate, and very slight vanilla also find their way in. Some floral notes pop through in the middle, just as the carbonation breaches your tongue. This provides a nice bitterness spike to balance the sweetness. The flavor shifts back to the malty-coffee side, now filled with dark cocoa beans. The chocolate essence of the beer comes out more and more as it warms. Surprisingly thin body for a beer of this style. Wet finish and overall low carbonation, for a slightly watery mouthfeel.

Great aroma, great taste, definitely a nice dessert beer or winter warmer. Not as creamy or heavy as expected, which may or may not be a good thing to some.

Big thanks to grub for this growler at DLD. Nice meeting you!

Poured into an imperial pint.

A: Pours pitch black with some good viscosity. Short head forms and falls pretty fast. Some decent lacing.

S: Smells of rich Russian and German chocolates.. melted in heavy cream and espresso. Wow, does this smell great or what? The richness of the whole thing is amazing.

T/M: More of the same. Strong, rich, melted chocolate with a great added milky sweetness. The java is a bit on the weak side but still present and pleasant. A touch of dryness but not much.. any more and I think it'd ruin the whole milkiness. My initial thought on the body is 'too thin'. I realize this is a single American stout but I think a slightly lower alcohol imperial version would have made a bit difference.

D: Tasty and definitely a unique beer. The lower alcohol is great and I'll finish nearly the entire growler tonight.

terrific brewed coffee aroma, and very nice appearance. The rest of the experience is average. There is vanilla, some woodiness, but surprisingly sour. A fresh newly bottled beer, thanks to Tim (IPFreely) for sharing. Much better in the imperial version.

64 oz. growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pours black with some transparency at the edge. No real head. Just a thin collar and some bubbles clinging to the inside of the glass.

Smell - Wow, incredible aroma. Coffee, vanilla, roasted malts. Delicious.

Taste - Sweet vanilla and coffee up front. Becomes extremely roasty. Very bitter. Overpowering bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Extremely bitter that makes it tough to drink.

Overall - Smells and tastes quite nice until that roasted bitterness takes over.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a deep black with a thin layer of creamy mocha colored head that retains nicely around the edges, with thin wisps across the center that leaves some decent lacing behind. The taste is fantastic with rich notes of dominant vanilla, coffee bitterness, chocolate sweetness, and brown sugars.

The taste profile is more of the same with (I hate to be redundant but quite frankly rich is the only word to describe it) accents of vanilla, cream, chocolate, caramel, toffee, and some lighter notes of roasted coffee bitterness running through it. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with just a fantastic smooth and creamy feel to it that perfectly accentuates the flavors.

Is this beer...? Really? Or is is dessert? While I would have like to have seen the coffee character shine a little more beneath all that sweetness, I can't really argue that this is one hugely tasty and quaffable concoction.
