Reviewing from notes after enjoying on 9/6/15. Enjoyed out of a 32 oz howler filled at Kuhnhenn on 9/5/15. Poured into an large brandy-style snifter glass.

Appearance (4.0) - Pours an opaque, so-dark-brown-it's-black kind of brown. Honestly, the only reason I was able to tell that it was brown was due to the color of the liquid cascading out of the howler. Atop the black-brown body, a finger and a half of creamy tan colored head forms, consisting primarily of tight, microbubbles--just a few larger bubbles interspersed throughout. Retention is moderate, hanging around for a minute or two before becoming a fairly consistent and healthy looking film across the surface of the liquid. Not much to speak of with regards to lacing.

Smell (4.75) - It's honestly hard to fault this smell in any way, as it aligns perfectly with the name of the beer. Fantastic notes of hazelnut, light caramel, brown sugar, baker's chocolate, and the hero--a decadent Vienna roast smelling coffee. Roasty and pungent, but not charred or burnt smelling. Honestly, if I didn't know I was looking at a beer, I might mistake this for a mocha latte based on smell alone.

Taste (4.25) - I have to admit, after the fantastic aroma, taking a drink felt a little bit like crashing to Earth. And perhaps that's not fair, as this is a very quality tasting stout. But compared to the rich aroma, everything about the flavor seems muted and dull. There are still the same elements present--hazelnut, chocolate, some sugar, and of course, coffee--but they are all less vibrant than they were in the aroma. I will say this, the coffee and chocolate are more prevalent in the taste than they were in the aroma. And admittedly, it's incredibly easy to drink. There is just enough bitterness to keep it interesting, which fits well with the aroma that didn't have the overly-charred coffee characteristic.

Mouthfeel (4.25) - A nice fullness, especially for a 5.8% beer, but I would still classify it as medium bodied on the overall spectrum. Carbonation is moderate, with enough present to give the feel some kick to it. Finish is semisweet.

Overall (4.25) - A beer that teases you with greatness from the intoxicating aroma, but ultimately turns out to be just a very good beer. The good news is that I would gladly drink this again and again, and with a relatively low ABV, it's easy enough to down 32 oz on your own without becoming sloppy.
